Sorry, the handful of people who have sent me friend requests are not my friends. I have no idea who they are, although some are likely dealers who want my business.

I’m digging the site because of the easy ability to organize and browse my own inventory and with high resolution.
I find it to be the best tool I’ve used very user-friendly.

Seeing random posts vs selecting a particular thread might be too much for some. But some days I like my coffee with cream in it and some days I don’t.🤣

I was skeptical, but after a couple hours of playing around with the site, I think it’s great (and will only improve from here).

For the small number of people interested in 20c pieces, I created the first group on the site for that denomination:

    https://www.mycollect.com/groups/doubledimes

This kind of feedback motivates me to spend more time (and money) on MyCollect! Thanks for sharing!

Tonight I created a group for collectors of the Capped Bust Half Dime. Link below...

So far I'm really liking the site! I haven't had time to post a whole lot because of work but I'll try to post when I can.

As for friend requests from people "I don't know" or possibly being dealers, I really don't see the issue here. You can choose whether or not to accept. I'm an introvert too, but I really don't like collecting in a total vacuum. Plus those connections might help you snag a coin that you might not ever see otherwise, I know that's happened to me because of sites like this, Instagram and other places. Knowing what I know now, I really don't want to go back to the coin buying/selling world of 30+ years ago.

Can collectors be verified? If so, what are the steps and necessary requirements?

    Maybe ANA member number?

I believe @ianrussell and team are working on a blue check verification feature to eventually roll out. Some people who were beta testers / early adopters already have the verification badge on their profile.

I have just figured the site out. It is far more complicated than Collective Coin and it takes a while to upload the pics and data.
The site looks good but I fear it is beyond my advanced years to figure it out.
    :)

How so? I've tried Collective Coin. You have to manually enter all the details yourself. With MyCollect, you add by cert number and it pulls up all the details. You can even add multiple coins at once, which is not possible with Collective. What am I missing?

I like the site alot. But...I'm not seeing much participation. And I wonder why that is. For instance, I have a Civil War tokens group of 55 members, and I try and post something cool every day. But besides me, there are maybe 2 other people that have made casual posts.
It's starting to feel like MyCollection and not a group on MyCollect.
    I hope this changes

I agree it’s a bit slow over there, but I have a feeling once they start ranking the sets there may be a bit more participation. I like how easy it is to upload and manage my inventory.

Elitecollection. you say you can enter a coin to be viewed by just entering its certification number? Is there aby way you could walk me through how that works? I am pretty feeble at computers and can't seem to find that feature on the site. Thanks in advance if you can answer this. james

Home page, click the + icon at the top. Then hit “add inventory” and it takes you to a fields where you can enter one or more certs. Just make sure you have the right tpg selected.

The extremely simple and intuitive drag and drop of images.
Also being able to designate which coin is or is not for sale.

Hmm.. a few visits but not yet feeling like it’s worth the bother of joining up.
I sort of get the idea it’s on track to be another registry type of platform and maybe not a lot of traffic for regular old coin interaction?
    I’ll keep checking back.

‘’I like the site a lot but I fear that the dealers are going to be a dominant force and it will tend to become predominantly a Buy/Sell board.’’

I have a different take on this situation. I initiated and manage the group dedicated to Kennedy Half Dollars. We have a respectable 53 members thus far. We have 2/3 highest Mint State registry set players in the world in the group at the moment as well as collectors who have studied Kennedy 50C for around fifty years of their life! There has never been a coin offered for sale to the group, but I would welcome anyone, dealer or collector, to offer the group a mesmerizing Kennedy 50C! $20 trinkets offered, where there are 10 for sale on eBay would likely be ignored, but offer up a juicy “four figure” coin at a fair price and watch the “feeding time at the zoo”. But, warning in advance, if the coin is priced simply to take a “shot” a the members in the group, the seller will likely hear about. What could be better for the “true collector”?

Thank you deplorable Dan. Your post is so informative I think even my cat Elliot could post a coin.
I don't want to sell coins, or compete in anything, but truly look forward to being able to post coins. James

As I noted before, your group will most likely result in siphoning off high quality content and discussion from this forum :(

Every new website I see seems to have relied WAY too much on "app" designers.

Getting things simplified for PHONES is one thing.
Getting things flexible is another. Data CAN be overwhelming.
No one seems to think users are capable of adding.... text notes .....to listings.

I tend to agree with you, as there are only so many hours in a day to dedicate to online posting of coin collecting pursuits / auction results.

I am giving it a try to see how it goes. I still prefer this place for now. I can see how that is a dealer friendly place.

Joined up several weeks ago, appreciate the effort to offer something new, just not finding anything that appeals to me. Hopefully in the future that will change.

I am trying to keep my groups engaged, but what I am observing is this:
Most people are treating it as a place to showcase their own collections, not engage in discussions. There has been very little posting going on except for the "manager" of the group displaying their own coins. I hope that changes. The hobby is certainly more enjoyable when people are actively talking about things, posting pictures of their pickups, and learning together. I had/have high hopes for MyCollect as a place where like minded people can gather in the sub categories of coin collecting.

I've been following you over there. I agree, there isn't much discussion in the groups I'm in. Just a place to post coins and get likes. I'm not sure that it will ever be a place to discuss coins like this forum. And if people do want to discuss things, I think the chat feature draws people away from posting on the threads. I don't use facebook anymore, but I see it as more of an alternative for that platform that is mored geared towards collectors as opposed to anything that will feel like a forum. I like the registry aspect that allows multiple tpgs and look forward to seeing how that evolves.
Since most of the coins I handle are for sale, I don't post as much as I could because I feel like it would be spam, but maybe I shouldn't feel that way since most of the posts I see seem to be from large dealers.

  • ProofCollectionProofCollection Posts: 6,363 ✭✭✭✭✭

Would have been better if they would have just made a dedicated Coin "ebay" but of course that would cut into GC's business. I have all the coin discussion I want on this forum and I like the diversity of content here.

  • pcgscacgoldpcgscacgold Posts: 2,936 ✭✭✭✭✭

I don't do Ebay, IG, Facebook, etc so I will use that as a place to see coins dealers are listing for sale. So far most "friend" requests have come from dealers.
