Nickel toned in holder over time. Have you experienced this?

When upgrading a 1952 Nickel recently I noticed that my original coin had toned quite attractively in the holder since I acquired it.
I no longer have original photos but the trueview tells the story.
A purple orange seems to have developed on both sides when originally it had an amber/gold obverse and a mostly normal reverse (no tone).
I actually prefer the way it looks now over when I first added it to my registry.

Could it have been dipped and improperly rinsed? Was it stored in a damp warm environment such as a basement or attic?

I do not know what happened before I got it but I store all my coins in pcgs boxes within dry storage containers kept in a climate controlled environment with low humidity and a temperature range of 66-75.
It came to me from an owner in Georgia 5-1/2 years ago, so there is a possibility of a previous warm/humid storage situation. As far as I know the original owner had it graded.

There is something present that has caused the tarnish to progress. Looking at it, and the uniformity, I suspect a previous dip. Cheers, RickO
Holders are not air tight, so coins often continue to tone naturally. Looks beautiful BTW.

I have a 1950 d Jefferson like that. Just for reference is all
looks like a thumb pushed the coin out of album .... sweat or hand lotion
...or just regular skin oils.
