Crossover question…

Good morning folks. Hypothetically if I submitted a coin graded NGC MS67+* CAC green stick for crossover, what are the chances of an MS68 from PCGS? Does pop have any factor in grading? Meaning would there be any impact on grading decision if the bump to MS68 were to make the coin the top pop and potentially cause a significant bump in value?

Hypothetically of course.

Yes, pop factor has the ability to come into play. I’d say you’d have a 25% chance of the 68 upgrade, because you have the +, *, cac, and 67 already going for it . Any of those positive factors could sway a grader to bump it. Coin may need to have a moose factor to it to give it sole top pop position though.

One added caveat may be to get NGC to upgrade the coin to a 68 first, then cross at straight grade with pcgs. It will favor your chances

It depends. Historically PCGS has been more generous with color bumps IMHO. To get in a 68 holder, it would likely need very eye appealing toning and great luster. Even then, price difference can also enter into the equation IMHO.

The odds are against an upgrade IMO.... That being said, the small investment to try is worth it if successful. Cheers, RickO

In other words, we need pictures.

And even if the coin has everything going for it, it can take multiple submissions to get it “right” if it ever makes it.

Good pics could help determine it better. I would say it would cross at grade, but you lose the star. Probably worth more how it is.

I dunno. Looks like some chatter halfway from Ben's nose to the rim. On the reverse some marks below UNUM, a mark to the left of the bell's crack about 1/3 of the way up, marks at the extreme lower right of the bell, and a mark below the eagle's right (facing) wing. All can be seen on the upper photos, the lower photos have way too much glare to assess the surfaces. I'd guess 68 would be quite a stretch.

It’s a pretty coin, but not enough for a color bump to 68 IMHO. It already looks to have been the beneficiary of a color bump IMHO especially with the obverse reed mark and marks on the bell.

The lower photos highlight the hits in Franklin’s hair.

I personally don’t think the coin will 68 at pcgs. If you feel strongly the coin should upgrade, I would resubmit to NGC to try for the 68 before thinking of pcgs.

Im not really seeing it as a 68, and I agree it looks like it may have already gotten the color bump. At this grade level, trying to tell the difference between 67+ and 68 from images is like pissing in the wind most of the time, but i'm not feeling that confident about this one. Nice coin though!

An attractive high-end coin, however I agree with the others who have stated (or implied) that it is likely maxed out.

    Does CAC do color bumps?

That remains to be seen, though I think CACG is the least likely grading service to upgrade that coin.

Potential bump in value - refer to CPG or CF.

Send in - if it’s worth the grading fee

Chances it upgrade. I am not God, not psycic - Fb games are played on grass lol. You will have to take your turn at bat c what our hosts grade it.

With all the spots chances don’t look good IMO. None graded MS68 either. With all the stuff (spots) in the fields question it’s even 67. Better specify minimum grade. So possible downgrade from PCGS? Don’t like bell area either. Wonder if that guy submitted multiple times to NGC to get 67?

But with potential bump up would still play my hand. Would want to know.

Very pretty coin though I’d agree with others that it is maxed out at 67.

Quick question: there’s a curious looking area on the upper left portion of the bell - somewhat shield shaped. Is that just an illusion created by toning? It almost looks struck through.

My (obviously very subjective) experience suggests that CAC is okay with a color bump of 0.5 to 1.00 grading points on mint state coins. Anything more has for me been refused a sticker. There is no written policy, so this is based entirely on my opinion and the toners I have submitted through the years.
