Anyone trying out "Threads"
![ctf_error_coins](https://forums.collectors.com/applications/dashboard/design/images/banned.png)
I have large Instagram following.. I have never used Twitter or Facebook.
I have been hearing that the brand new Threads is growing rapidly. Should I jump in. What should I write?
Anyone trying this out.

Its basically a direct competitor to twitter, though it appears to be growing quickly. I joined but I don't know how much time I will spend there. Between CU, CAC forum, FB, and regular IG I'm already spread out pretty thin as it is. Haven't quite figured out how to navigate it yet either.

No interest here.
I have it, but I haven't posted anything on it. I also have another one, which I have posted stuff, not coin related. It has a long ways to go.
Below is the actual to do list, that they plan to add, in the future.

No. I'm kind of a recluse. No FB. Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok , or any of that. Just a coin shop. No spam intended.
I will not use it because simply posting coins takes too much of my time. The world is better without Instagram altogether so I limit my use.

No interest in social media of any kind or name or brand...
Wow, a lot of pushback against social media here. You guys do realize this very forum is a form of social media right? IG, FB, for me are just extensions of a community like this. in my opinion, the more options we have to buy, sell, post, and discuss coins, the better. I've made some really great connections through other social media platforms that have helped me obtain coins that were long off the market, or liquidate coins at favorable prices to other collectors. Networking is key, IMO.

I might try it out. I still remember the night the Whole World arrives in my room through America Online dial-up internet![ ](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I'll wait and see what happens. I just joined Instagram myself and learning the platform.

That is all true, but some of us are very old and like to pushback.
I had never even heard of this threads thing until I read this thread. But I'm also not big on social media stuff, don't have an IG account (bty thanks for posting the pics on the CAC forum as I also couldn't see anything in that link you posted) do have a FB account but haven't logged onto in in years. I just don't have time to spend hours each day on multiple social media sites.

Very well put, and I appreciate hearing your perspective. I have a love/hate relationship with social media. Agree that it has been a detriment to society in some regards, but at the same time it has really bolstered participation in the hobby with the younger generation coming in. I take the good with the bad, but overall I think social media is a benefit to the numismatic world. Idk how helpful the new "threads" app will be, but IG and FB have been quite useful for me.
Edit- Just for clarity, I'm not one of the people posting a timeline of their day, or some self congratulatory BS for the purpose of attention seeking or affirmation. My social media time is limited for coins and memes, and that's pretty much it.

This forum is the only social media that I'm on, and that's because I'm in the process of getting my seated quarter collection certified anf building a registry set. Wednesday is correct.
Probably not... I'm on FB, this Forum, and I just rejoined the coin forum ATS... I was on MeWe for a little while just for close family (that aren't on FB). I have a Twitter account but I think I've only used it 2 or 3 times... I just found there were too many "twits" on Twitter. I think that's why I never joined Instagram either. The newest life/time-sucking social media platform isn't something I'd be interested in...

Nope, I never got into micro blogging even back in twitter’s earliest days. I don’t do as much posting anywhere these days anyway. I have a nice rss reader to catch a lot of the stuff I’m interested in and move on
I’m on FB only under duress as there are several key products I use that will only use FB as a support source.
No interest here. In addition to the CU forums, I'm on only two other hobby-related forums. I am on Facebook, only to keep in contact with family around the country. Hell, I don't even have a cellphone/iphone/smartphone/etc....., as I refuse to let one control my life.
Steve
This forum is it for me and I probably spend too much time here.
No interest whatsoever as its Just more political bullshit and has no place here on the coin forum to begin with..
Obviously this is not for the old timers![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I am not sure that I want to feed a thread on Threads.
YN's seem to gravitate toward Instagram (which is tied to Threads} so I was just wondering about that base of YN's and if it is worth my time.
How can a smart phone control your life? That is up to you. A smart phone is a very useful tool.
The "Mercury" Dime depicts a Fasces on the reverse, a broad symbol of the fascism that grew between the wars, and that we were nearly able to defeat with the fall of Hitler and Mussolini. Unfortunately, fascism has found a new outlet in 21st Century in the form of social media.

Not for me. I don't need a big tech company data mining my personal info.
No surprise there, pretty sure most apps collect all of that these days. Privacy doesn't really exist anymore unless you're willing to be somewhat off the grid with nothing more than a flip phone.

My website used to be my primary source of patients- but in the last three years Instagram has become the primary driver. Long gone are the cocktail parties where doctors network over martinis, or the Wednesday golf games with cigars. Now we network with the world through social media- if you’re in medicine and you’re not on social media you are not maximizing your potential!
PCGS Social Media, I have a question for you.
Did you join Threads and do you plan to feed it?
I’ll answer on their behalf. See below.

Don't know, don't care to get involved with nonsense, jmo
Social media is vastly overrated. It's a crutch that many can't function without. If that's your bag, fine, just don't impose it on me as a necessity to get along in this world.
I launched Threads for my Instagram photography account on Wednesday but not my coin account. On Instagram, photos post on top and on Threads text you write posts on top. Hashtags are not searchable on Threads. There are a ton of differences but Threads is a combination of Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. It's interesting but I don't know that I want to maintain another social media account. It takes a lot of time.
I work in the advertising world and I can tell you there aren't any ads on Threads yet but there will be as soon as audience sizes grow high enough. They will be run from within the Meta Ads platform.

I love Twitter, but between Twitter and this board, I’m not sure I really need another time suck in my life.

Well, several of those are a surprise. It should not link health and fitness ( no freecking way), financial, and browser history, to name a few. Period. Ugh. FREECKING Facebook lite.
Agreed. Just more ways to isolate each other and hide behind a keyboard instead of going outside and meet people face to face.
Hey there my friend! Agree with you!
Funny how the same guy that complains about a VaultBox thread posts a non coin related thread in the U.S. Coin forum. Bit hypocritical in my opinion 🙄
Really, you want to go there.
One is about news and information on what ever subject you want.
The other, In My Opinion Is a scam.
And, how is this non coin related when PCGS started using Threads?
Elon Musk I like and the coins he collects are gold!
Haven't looked at moving there yet, but I do have a pretty active Instagram account for coins. Don't do too much on the other platforms. Lots of "get off my lawn" posts here, kind of ties in with "where are all the young collectors?" rant question we get off and on. The answer is that they are certainly out there on many of those platforms and yes, they are deliberately avoiding your "lawn". Sort of like the scowling dealer at a show having no visitors and complaining that coins are dead.

Not for me.... I use this forum for my coin interests, FB for family connections. That is enough time spent socially on the computer. Got life to live, things to do, people to laugh with... Cheers, RickO

Over the past handful of years, it has lost its luster for me and these days, I only get on there every few weeks to check in on the friends and family that use it as a primary tool to convey updates on life and health. I’ll spare you all my lengthy blathering on the subject.
This forum is my main connection to social media these days and I’m thankful that’s it’s here and moderated with a guiding hand.
