RIP Greg Lyon, ANA Governor & Summer Seminar YN Chaperone
I'm saddened to report that Greg Lyon was involved in an accident a couple of weeks ago and passed away this afternoon at the age of 51.
I first met Greg at the ANA Summer Seminar, where he was a YN chaperone for years after being involved as a YN himself in the 1980s and early 1990s. Greg served multiple terms on the ANA Board of Governors and won three ANA awards:
-YN of the Year in 1989
-Adult Advisor of the Year in 2005
-Glenn Smedley Memorial Award in 2021
As it happens, while I met Greg in the context of numismatics and saw him sporadically at shows, our more recent interactions had little to do with coins. The internet being a great way to stay in touch with friends from afar, I enjoyed following his culinary and travel adventures (he knew and liked airplanes, and I sure liked that) on Facebook, and the animal lover he was, boy did he get excited when I got a dog (and more excited when I got a second, though he never got to meet her). Greg visited Seattle in the spring and summer of 2021 and stopped by both times. The first time he played with Puck and we took a walk at a local park, and the second time we went for a flight with his long-time partner and finished the day at a dog park. No doubt the highlight of both of those visits was the furball.
As one final act of kindness, Greg's organs were donated.
Farewell, friend. I know some pups have been waiting to see you.

This is very sad news. My heart goes out to his family.
I was just re-reading the old thread where he graciously and generously educated all of us on the inner workings of the ANA with respect to convention site selection. He will be missed.
Terrible news, so young and so much more to give RIP

Very sad. Someone said, “only the good die young”.
Dinners at coin shows will not be the same.
RIP friend.
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.
A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

Condolences to family and friends.
Greg was one of the good ones, in numismatics, and in his career in the pharma biz.
Never knew him personally but met him a couple of times. He was a true numismatist and advocate for the hobby and its perpetuation through generations to come. RIP
RIP Mom- 1932-2012
My condolences to his family !
Hmmmm. Crap. These sorts of messages pop up too frequently. Way too young. Enjoy every day my friends. Greg will surely be missed, and there is now a void that will not easily be filled.
This is really very sad news. I really liked Greg and would run into him at the Summer Seminars I attended, as well as shows. Always a breath of fresh air, so kind, knowledgeable, and giving of his knowledge. Greg will definitely be missed, my heart and prayers go out to his family.![:'( :'(](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/cry.png)
