Different kind of Morgan Newp

This is a medal Morgan did for the centennial of Lincoln's birth in 1909. I don't even collect medals, but I had to have it. 62 mm in diameter.

Wow, did not expect that
. Very cool nonetheless, and in this case bigger is definitely better.

That’s an attractive example of the type! The obverse portrait is a reduction from the earlier 76mm US Mint Presidential medal executed by Morgan. You can tell that this example is an early strike, possibly done in the centennial year of 1909, due to the dark color and somewhat smooth surfaces. The design was regularly struck and offered for sale by the US Mint until the 1980’s, and possibly later. Looking quickly at my records, the Mint sold it for $1 in the late 1920’s and $7 in the early 1980’s.
The same design was later modified for the 1959 Assay Commission medal.
Morgan did so much medallic work. A collector would be severely limiting themselves from some of his best work, if they only collected the Morgan Dollar coins.

@messydesk... That is one beautiful medal. Congratulations on a great addition. Cheers, RickO
I feel like the little boy watching the emperor go by in his "new clothes," since no photo is showing in the OP.
There seems to be a problem with the forum software that causes images to not show up now and then. I actually can't see it from this computer, but I can see it on my phone. The OP has an externally linked image, here it is uploaded to the forum.
