New Trade Dollar Die Variety Book
![shish](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/userpics/ODKIUKJQ8ISV/nD0XWV0YZ7MTU.jpg)
Congratulations to the author John B. Cox on his new book. Fifty copies of the first printing limited to 100 copies of "The United States Trade Dollar Challenge 50 Set" are now available on eBay.
The first book to cover die varieties of the US Trade Dollar Series.
50 Slots were chosen to cover 50 variety types (some have multiple die pairs and states).
Many varieties included are very challenging to locate, some are scarce, others rare, all are interesting.
Dies and die pairs refer to comprehensive master listings related in an upcoming book (expected within 2 months). This book is, however, still self-contained. It is professionally printed in color and bound in soft-back.

@alefzero did a great job, really usable and common sense book. I've been enjoying it!
good stuff

Just ordered my copy. Thanks for the heads-up @shish

Just picked up this neat 75-S with type 2 reverse and small s. It was truly helpful having this book to vet the coin before my purchase. Thanks again @alefzero , I'm going to keep banging the drum for you.
@lermish - Yes, that is a tough one (and quite attractive at that). I did see one at a dealer's table at Long Beach last week in NGC MS63. I noted it, but was priced too high to interest me for my own inventory. (Not absurdly high, but I would probably lose money on resale.)
That is a very nice example, I maintain these are the rarest of the 75s varieties to include the S/cc's. The 75 micro S are condition rarities and rarely seen in AU and above.

Place holder for a few pictures later. It was cool to see my 75cc Type 1/1 Wide CC 1.2mm as the plate coin in the book

75-microS type two reverse show and tell time. Here is an MS61 I picked up from Crypto a few years back.
It was specifically included to see if a bunch of people might uncover some more of those. Not holding out a lot of hope though. Yours is the only one I have seen or seen an image of. It is a really big deal coin.
A lower grade example was recently located bringing the count to 4 after about 5 years of heavy looking
1-PCGS VF30 wholesome strait graded
2-PCGS XF details original surfaces but a noticeable rim bump
3-PCGS XF details (pictured coin) Over Dipped coin with traces of luster in devices no hairlines
4-NGC XF details various problems
Coins 2&3 respectively

Although I've never been able to tell if my 73-CC is the FS-301, can't tell if the denticles got bumped or if a 7 is peeking up there. I think I have the wrong CCs though
Not the MPD 301 or 302. Both have multiple rev die parings
I Unfortunately don’t own two of those anymore. Sold my set a few years back one only have a few coins as a tribute set stashed away
75cc wide 1.2
75 s/cc chopped
75s micro s 1/2 chopped
76s 1/2 large S chopped
76e 2/2 large S UNC

Last year I was very fortunate to purchase this 75-CC and submit it to NGC.
Crypto thanks for posting images of the other examples.
Cool coin Greg, great find.

Super nice example, thanks for sharing.
Uh oh, I've thus far avoided collecting Trade Dollars by die variety, but this might just suck me in.
I recently picked up this one, a 77-S with no periods on the reverse:

Those are nice. That they have both the small wide cc and the Cherrypicker MPD make them doubly interesting.
Here is a 73-CC for you. You don't often see toning like this on a Trade Dollar, let alone one that was chopmarked.

Great thread, thanks for sharing!
Was checking out a coin auction when this popped up on the screen.
Gave it to my mom, EMS.
Here's my well traveled 73-CC. A chop obscures the precise distance between the CC's but their alignment beneath the gap in "NS" and the comma leads me to believe it's a wide CC. Perhaps only 1.0 mm though, and not the 1.2 mm very wide.

55?
I was hoping people would fill in the ?. The MS was provided as a baseline.
MS55 😈
Crypto's comments match my thoughts exactly. PCGS graded MS-61, just a bit more luster and she'd grade a point or two higher. Dan you knew better.![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
There is a die scratch in the denticles above the last "S" in STATES that appears on all of the 1.2mm "Wide CCs". I can see it clearly on all four of mine (all 4 years). Yours does not have this scratch; therefore its not the 1.2mm Wide variety. Below is my 75 highlighted in red:

I believe this is an example of the 1.0mm wide cc, not super wide, but it also exhibits the weird die marker between the wing and the leg. I don't see a misplaced date on the obverse.
Seated Dollar Collection
Yes, that weird die marker and the very weak strike on the sinister leg, same as mine. Nice to see one without the chops, thanks.
It is a 1.0, you can tell for sure due to the clash under the eagles left wing

Not a weird die marker, it is a clash of liberty’s lap

The 1875-CC Wide CC (1.2mm) variety captured my interest after seeing the reports posted here on the Forum (this one from @mbogoman , for example) and I have been searching for one ever since. Today I'm delighted to report example #5, just back from PCGS!
5-PCGS AU details cleaned
Outstanding! It appears yours is the finest one too. I'd grade it AU50 Details.
