Looking for information. It was finished in 1914 with visitors coming to see it 1913.

Is this a common piece? What do you have from the canal?

Nice medal, the one I'm looking for was given to the workers. They were made from the steel from the construction equipment left behind by the French after their failed attempt to build the canal. I have a bunch of the 1915 Pan-Pac Expo medals, and these from the 1914 Panama Canal Completion and the Panama-California Exposition:

The late Steve Tannenbaum told me that these pieces are hard to find because many of them are held as family heirlooms. I bought this one in a political items auction.

I wrote a long essay about these pieces and have quite a bit of background information. Here is a list of the number of pieces that were issued:

    Number of Medals: 6489
    Number First Bars: 2831
    Number Second Bars: 952
    Number Third Bars: 74

You had to work on the canal for four years to get a three bar metal.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
