Date of grading

Is there a way to determine when a particular coin was graded ?

I have seen this question asked several times in the past.... Always wondered why it was important to the individual... Cheers, RickO

I’m guessing a few reasons why people might think it’s important:

-see if the coin is stable (if graded a while ago, it’s less likely to turn in the holder)
-establish a pattern (maybe someone thinks coins graded at a certain time are more conservative or more loose)
-other…some coin people tend to be interested in numbers and data, so it could just be that or general curiosity

I think many, not necessarily the OP here, have heard that earlier slabs were under graded. Inconsistencies exist in each era, of course. The only reason I’m interested in older slabs, somewhat, is that they are more likely stable and any doctoring may be more evident.

Well in my mind there is no doubt that the earlier slabs were more strictly graded. I have some Morgan's in the old green label hand typed labels that when compared to new slabs of the same grade the difference is like night and day. But back to my original question the date of grading is just curiosity on my part.

While I have little doubt that the actual grading date exists within the PCGS grading database, I doubt it will ever be exposed within their public Certification Verification site.

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.
