@coinsarefun... Those are quite nice medals Stef... Had not heard them referred to as SCD's though.... Wish our coins would get to be as interesting. Cheers, RickO

I have been rather outspoken regarding "unlisted So-Called Dollars" and their inclusion in the Hibler-Kappen catalogue and assigning them an HK number, my thinking always being that it's a slippery slope sort of thing.
When listing what was included and what was excluded Hibler-Kappen were clear with Number Seven on the excluded list: to wit, No school, college or athletic medals; no coin club or U.S. Armed Forces medals. That's not confusing or hard to understand. If these are club medals they shouldn't be listed as So-Called Dollars and there's at least an equal chance that Hibler-Kappen were aware of them and didn't list them. Further, the typical excuse is that other exceptions were made, why not these?? Hence, my "slippery slope" comment. The catalogue contains errors or exceptions, not much can be done to undo those, but what we can do as collectors is to not make that problem worse.
The fact that Shevlin-Hyder have chosen to build on the work of others and change it by considering the inclusion of stuff like these medals is unsettling to me.
The medals pictured are nice but they almost certainly don't qualify as So-Called Dollars.
I can understand and appreciate your thoughts on this. I was mealy surprised to find that many of my coin club medals have a SCD theme to them. And, I liked that. I’m okay with them not being designated a SCD and can understand why. I guess I was only trying to bring a correlation to events on coin club medals. That’s why I was asking if anyone else had the club medals with these themes.

I’ve been creating a collection of club medals for several years now and although not popular with the
general population I still enjoy and will continue to enjoy them.

The Detroit Coin Club produced quite a few very nice medals during the early 20th century. Collect them for what they are ... really nice medals ... and don't worry about whether someone else considers them to be So-Called Dollars.
.
Yes, they do and I have several. Please read above your reply for my response

Similar to the above, original post (also posted in numismatic medal thread.
This 2009 CSNA takes its inspiration from the so called dollar from Santa Monica breakfront.
I've not be able to locate mintages on these but I will assume +-100 if not considerably less.

And another coin club that takes inspiration from the 1915 PanPac expo.
2 clubs got together and used one die from one club and the reverse die of another club.

This image is a little older as now I have the brass example in silver. So, I need to update the picture.
