Getting Very Close To Finishing Morgan Set;Some Lower Grade Key Dates

Some of these Key dates can get to be thousands of dollars each and higher grades I had to make some compromises. I think some lower grade coins, if you cherry pick them very well, can be acceptable. I picked up all of these in the last 30 days I’m tired of waiting six months to a year to buy one coin at a time.

Which ones are you missing ?

How are you collecting? Is it a full date and mintmark set?

I think Morgan’s wear quite well and I really appreciate a circulated example with original surfaces.

    No 1895 proof.

The 92-S and 94-O will be easy.

Nice coins. Morgans are a fun collection and fill 5 boxes of 20.

I like the looks of these coins, especially the 1903-S! I also have some circulated key dates in my set. Unless you want to spend an extra half million, there isn’t really an alternative.

The 1893-S will take half that $10k! I think you'll be lucky to get away for that little!

On average what grade is the rest of your collection? Is there a rush to complete?

    My current Registry sets:
✓ Everyman Mint State Carson City Morgan Dollars (1878 – 1893)
    ✓ Everyman Mint State Lincoln Cents (1909 – 1958)
    ✓ Morgan Dollar GSA Hoard (1878 – 1891)

  • I like that Certified space holder! I have a similar collection and I just might do the same for my coin album.

I tried to get as many of them in mint state as I could but many of the final key dates are just to expensive and out of reach in those grades.

Nice collection and thanks for sharing the pics! Definitely an achievement to be proud of and to share with others

Upon completing a set or series I find myself asking, what's next, thus I find myself enjoying the hunt rather than the rush to complete. Is there a what's next or hunt for upgrades once the holes are plugged?

Very nice coins/set. Sets are fun to work on and satisfying to complete. Then the upgrades can continue the hunt. Or start another set. I stopped doing sets about fifteen years ago... Had just completed the CC Morgans and was doing the ASE run... then they skipped a year, so I stopped. Now, I just collect what catches my eye... quality, rarity, design.... If I like it, I add it. Lots of fun that way. Cheers, RickO

Very nice set. Did you buy all the coins currently in the album raw or have you ever cracked out of slabs to fill the holes. I have a similar set grade wise and originally had a hard time cracking coins >$200. But eventually cracked the last 15 or so last year so all are now in my Dansco. Not concerned with selling and figured if and when I sell an astute collector/dealer will know how to grade & value them. My only rule is never crack an over-graded or potentially details coin from its slab.

I cracked out more than half of them out of the slabs, but I refuse to crack out like expensive Carson City‘s.
I picked up this 1894-O the other day from my local coin store and have it on layaway but owe a small balance still.

I saw some cool Morgans in the past at the coin store and went back and they were gone. I hate that..
