Reeded Edge CBH/Liberty Seated Half Dol Plastic holder set identification - Who made it and when?

Davidk7Davidk7 Posts: 375 ✭✭✭✭

Hello everyone, I purchased this incomplete plastic holder set randomly on eBay years ago because I had never seen anything like it before and I thought it was cool. I have not had success figuring out where it came from or who made it so I hope someone here can help out. It does not have square edges so I think it rules out Capitol plastics unless I am missing some information regarding that. I will attach some photos to help out. Thanks!

Neat frames. You used to be able to custom order stuff like this from the manufacturer. I’m not sure if that’s an option today— I’ve never tried. But I’ve seen some pretty unusual type coin combos that were made by Capitol upon special request by a collector.

Probably Capital Plastics. I am sure that if you were ordering custom sets you could specify rounded corners if that is what you wanted.

Check the sides to see if each one has a neat diagonal scratch somewhere. Those were to help you be sure that you had all three sheets arranged correctly before you started putting screws in.

I recall being able to design and order custom plastic holders from Capital Plastics back at least into the very early 2000s (perhaps the very late 1990s), but it was always prohibitively expensive to get them to run essentially a one-off for a customer. I don't think these are Seitz since they always seem to have used clear pegs to hold the coins and metal screws and don't think they are Meghrig since they appeared to specialize in cardboard pages with acetate like Wayte Raymond National Coin Albums. However, the rounded edges have me thinking they might not be Capital Plastics, either.

    Good luck!

Not seeing any diagonal scratches. It is just two clear plastic pieces covering the white plastic holder, and held with those plastic screws that Capitol uses for their sets.

I've seen holders for proof sets with rounded off corners. If it isn't Capital, someone did a good job at copying them.

Another company named Berger ( if I remember correctly) made lucite holders with rounded corners.
