Just curious, who comes up with variety names like speared bison, bugs bunny, 3 leg etc?

Everybody. No one has the authority to "officially" name varieties, but the catchy ones take on a life of their own.

I would assume that it must be a few with similar signature in order to become a variety? I’ve looked at eBay and PCGS pics and haven’t seen any.

Usually the issue that commands a collector premium, will get a name that becomes a permanent descriptor. If no collector interest, it fades quickly. Cheers, RickO

Very cool catch. Usually, when the abnormality is successful. Whatever the discoverer of the coin suggests first, sticks!
    The "wounded drummer" sounds good!
In fact, didn't one of the 3 original guy's, have some sort of injury?

    Wounded warrior...

    Pirate drummer...

Careless drummer (poked himself in the eye with a drumstick)...

I really like the “Wounded Soldier” variety name. But, I’m leaning on the “Wounded Drummer” so I do NOT discredit the brave young boys that were used and some even volunteered to be a “drummer” during early wars. 🫡

What kind of error do you think this is? Seems like a huge die chip or maybe grease filled die?

@DCW - Looks like die erosion associated with a late die state.

Here are a few more from the same $10 roll. I counted 32 pcs. I’m combing eBay and haven’t found anything similar yet….

I really think it's neat, and you seem to have a progression of die states here. Unusual for the same roll.
I think it would make a great CoinWorld article.
