finally found a wholesome seated dollar

I've been looking for a type example for about 6 months, after selling another SLD that I liked, but didn't love. So many of the coins in this series look scrubbed or messed with, even if they're straight graded.
This 1870 presented itself at a GC auction recently, and it checked all my boxes—great original-looking eye appeal, a thick skin, some character/color, generally uniform surfaces, and no problems. It arrived this week and I'm very pleased.
The coin I sold was a 58, but this is a happy downgrade to this 50 (my minimum grade for my type set). Any and all comments welcome, even if you don't like it as much as I do.

Looks good - I think it likely got a market grade bump from 45 for originality. A coin I’d be happy to own.
A very nice looking coin!
It's a beauty.
Super nice.
They are definitely scarce/rare with that "look".

I like it. It appears to flash a bit of PL surfaces at certain angles. Is that the case in-hand? Regardless of if it does or not, I think the coin is attractive.

As nice a 50 as I've seen.

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't an optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.
My mind reader refuses to charge me....
For "pocketchange", that must have been an incredible find.
Nice looker.....
How about some pictures of the 58 you let go.........
Looks nice.

A very nice coin... and I can tell you are thoroughly pleased with it - which is what really matters. Cheers, RickO
I would wager it would sticker as a 45. Nice look. Congrats.

Nice coin. I had it in my watchlist and didn’t end up bidding.

Very nice example!
She’s got pretty thick skin but under bright light, yes. There’s a tinge of mint luster left around the letters and stars as well.

I really like the look. And it’s not an 1871!
Wow, the TrueView makes it look so much better. I'm guessing GC didn't use the TV or you might have had a lot more competition. Even your bottom two iPhone shots bring out the positives better than the GC photo.
Wholesome 50!!
Congrats on picking up a very eye appealing SLD!!

Very nice SLD! I’ve been struggling to find (and getting the winning bid) on the two I need for my Dansco7070.
By any chance you have a link your type set? I’d be really interested to see what else you have!
Wonderful looking coin!
Congrats on snagging it!👍
Way nicer than the GC photos show. Congrats!

Sure, it’s posted publicly—here’s the link.
It was 100% complete at one point, but I’ve sold a few examples off that need to be replaced, which was the case for this SLD.

Really nice piece. Congrats on the pickup!
