Coins with eclipses pictured. The Great American eclipse of 2023 and 2024.

I am not aware of any coins or medals which depict an eclipse. Of course many coins depict the sun, as well as the moon. For the sun, walking liberty halfs, and ASEs . The moon is shown on Ike dollars. I'm sure there are many more coins, both foreign and domestic which depict the sun and/or moon.

Post any that you may have, and in particular, if there are any that show an eclipse, as well as the sun and/or moon. I'm not sure how eclipse would be shown on a coin, but there are many very artistic people who might be able to or have come up with something.

What stimulated this thread that there is a great American eclipse, actually two, coming up shortly. One is on October 14, 2023, coming ashore in Oregon, proceeding to the southeast, exiting the US through Texas. This is an annular eclipse.

The second is a total eclipse on April 8, 2024, coming from Mexico, into Texas, proceeding northeast, into Canada.

Some places in Texas will be able to enjoy both occurrences.

About four years ago, there was a total eclipse that I had the opportunity to see in Oregon. It is quite an experience. If you have never seen one, put it on your bucket list.

If you want more detailed information about the two upcoming eclipses Google the great American eclipse. It will take you to a website and provide a lot of information, probably more than you wanted to have, but it does provide information concerning safely observing the eclipse.. You can purchase filters (eyeglasses), to safely observe the phenomenon. I have no interest in that website.

I checked out the website, it seems that these coins are either sold out, or perhaps on backlog. the only minted 3000. Nonetheless, they are cool.

I should've suspected Dan Carr might have come up with something as he is very talented.

Traveled to Crete, Nebraska, back in August, 2017, for the total solar eclipse. It was a 600 mile journey and we had a group of 12 people that made the trip. We all immediately agreed we would go wherever we needed to to view the April, 2024, solar eclipse. It really is an extraordinary event and next year's eclipse is expected to be the largest migration event in US history. A lot of people are planning to see this one. If you do get into the path of totality be forewarned that after totality ends the exiting traffic is unbelievable.

There is at least one Mexican Mint medal depicting an eclipse from around 1979 or so. Don’t have a photo offhand.

I’ve got several of the Dan Carr ones. Bought a ton and have slowly sold most off.

The April eclipse is happening just a few days before my upcoming wedding. The Sun itself will be putting on a diamond ring for me and my fiance.

I'm really hoping to experience the totality. I don't live too far from the path.

The 2017 eclipse came right over my house. I remember the shadows from the leaves being very strange. It is a thing everyone should experience.

maybe you should change the date of your wedding to the date of the eclipse. Have the I do's coincide with totality, signifying the end of single life, and the beginning of married life.

    Just a thought.
