Here is my most recent (1943-S no-"V.D.B." Lincoln Steel Wheat Cent):
The first Lincoln cents of 1909 have the designer's initials "V.D.B." present on the lower reverse. Part way through the year, the "V.D.B." was removed from all subsequent coins. From 1909-1917 the designer's initials were not present on Lincoln Cents. In 1918 the V.D.B. was added to the coins again. But this time, it was located on the lower truncation bevel of Lincoln's Bust. To this day, that is where it remains.
I recently visited an antique shop that had a junk box of foreign coins and tokens, priced at 50-cents each. I almost passed this one by, but I happened to notice that the part of the die where the V.D.B. was had broken off, causing a CUD die break on the coin. It is listed in the CUD reference as CU-1c-1943S-12 .

Found this in a dealer’s junk silver box, when 90% was selling at $5.00 an ounce. Coin was completely black with the darkest toning I’ve ever seen. This is what it looks like today.![](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/editor/pk/91hpubjej4nh.jpeg)

Last year I was gifted 2 2 1/2 gold escudos. They were in a members “junk drawer “. They became my avatar and my first gold. I think of the Grateful Dead every time I look at them. St. Stephan “. “One man gathers what another man spills “.
They are my favorite and have opened up a new path of collecting. I now have 4 silver 2 1/2 escudos and 3 NICU as well as a 2 1/2 escudos that’s paper currency 😳. You just never know.
Thank you again @kindanewish. Your kindness helped me find an unknown direction and thanks especially to @gumby1234 for the PM providing the heads-up about the giveaway.
How’s that for another example of why this forum is very very awesome. Thanks PCGS.

I paid two bucks for the Mercury dime that represents the type in my 7070. It's a pretty nice coin.
I got a type 1 SLQ and a 1853-O quarter once.

Only super find ever was from a "junk box of Mercury Dimes". This coin was definitely not a Merc and was so well struck. Sent in to NGC for conservation and it came back as a PF61. Probably its life in the box lowered its grade. Later sold it to HJBerk. Actually traded it for a pair of 1908 and 1908 S Indian Head Cents that I wish I still had.

It was plated to be worn with a hang tag at the 1892-93 Worlds Fair. I did not know that when I purchased it as junk silver. The hang tag/ribbon is harder to find. The one I have looks to me like it had been silver plated and then gold plated

Interesting bullseye .
This little Cali souvenir set came from a dealer "junk drawer". I paid ten bucks I think... I just thought it was neat and maybe, just maybe they would turn out to be gold. No such luck, but they are cool.
