CAC Stickers in Brick and Mortar Shops
![MidLifeCrisis](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/userpics/OJ87ANXLLOYF/n9NZ3EPD1PDKU.jpg)
I like CAC and I value their opinion. I look for coins with CAC stickers. I went to two brick and mortar coin shops recently, one in Kentucky and one in Tennessee. The one in Kentucky has been around for at least 40 years (I used to go there when I was a kid). The owner of the one in Tennessee told me he's been there since 2007. Both had what I would call a medium size inventory of slabbed coins. I didn't see one CAC sticker in either store. Is this common for B&M stores? Are CAC stickered coins mostly found online?

I visit 2 local coins shops. I see very few CAC'd coins at one of the stores, none at the other.
From what I gather in conversation with the owners, their main income is from buying and selling silver and gold. The coin selection is quite limited here.
Tonedeaf is a nickname given to me in reference to my guitar playing ability.
Depends on the B&M. Apart from bullion, many of them don't carry coins worth more than a couple hundred bucks.
The cases of many dealers at big shows are no different. Some people don't care about stickers, some people don't know about them, and some people don't carry inventory where CAC stickers would make sense. A few dealers go out of their way to avoid CAC'd coins. Lots of dealers have an accidental coin or two in inventory with a sticker.
If I go to a large shop near me(45+min away) that also makes it to the big national shows (Sarasota Rare Coin) then there are plenty of stickers. If I go to small shops that just have widgets and coin supplies then there are seldom any stickers to be found.

I’m lucky to find graded coins at the 2 LCS nearest me.

Yes can be found on the bay. Many aggressively marked up. Baaah. At local show setup at of 48 dealers possibly 3 or 4 might have some but not more than half dozen. Due to pivot other areas - Haven’t had any of them since 2020. Many of us simply not in that market segment. One guy has 4 stickered DE but has not moved any after I first noticed them several months ago. Perhaps there has been interest but they not wanting pay the extra money. I would rather pick out nice non stickered graded material and skip the extra cost hit. But this should be no surprise as they very small pct of slabbed material on eBay. A wholesaler with nice shop has never had any at the shows maybe they back at the shop for his big spender rich customers. Considering possibility of govt default many prolly not want be buying coins period. Thank gosh for the free coin show food.
No coin shops in my area.... Just some antique shops. There are some slabbed coins - not many, and no stickers... No coin shows here either. I live in a coin desert.
Cheers, RickO
Bummer dude, sorry to hear that 😭
@ricko ,
I think you should look into putting on a small local show in your area. Maybe a board member could assist, especially if they're in your region.

For a few near me, and admitting I haven't been in the last 2-3 years (pre-covid) and have only done local shows, the shops might have had a CAC or two, but a lot of them would send coins out to other outlets for selling if they didn't think they could sell quickly in their shop but could online, at a higher price.
At least one of them had an ebay "department" and sold there as well....that was where certain coins went. Others sat in their cases for a long time.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
As an owner of a B&M store in KY that has been open since 1976 I can only say that the CAC approved coins usually sell quickly and to our best customers. Since CAC has changed their focus, and pricing, it doesn’t make financial sense to send off as many pieces for possible approval. I would assume most dealers are selling their CAC approved coins to their customers and are not willing to wholesale them in most cases.
Would be happy to see you sometime if you are in northern KY.
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

Thanks. The shop I visited was in western Kentucky. I do get up to northern Kentucky sometimes though. Send me the name and address of your shop when you get a chance.
You do not see many CAC coins in my local shops. I suspect that they do get them from time to time, but already have several other larger coin shops and traveling buyers that get first crack before they ever get in the showcase.

Have not seen hardly any in local shops. At local show very sparse. Could be many sell in private transactions with go to rich solid payer customers before. One guy has a few CAC DE they have not been moving as same ones several shows in a row. I looked at them he said “people off bourse can’t afford them or won’t pay the (extra) money.”
Occasionally I look at number of CAC on eBay vs non CAC. Go run the numbers. My own method see how many out there. I just ran a search for Oregon Trail (a fav) CAC on eBay. 12 came up - so they out there. Easy to get them - Now go pay the money.
I haven’t had any CAC in ages. Have never been offered any at my table or from the public. Mine sold out during the pandemic. Nor has the wholesaler at show had any. Either back at shop or sold out to whale private retail buyer. At recent show - I would have bought a really nice CAC commem a real PQ blazer from another guy (price right, allowing me some room) but the holder had a sizeable distracting tick near the coin so passed. Take care of your holders for crying out loud.
I think I may have one coin with a sticker. A seated half in AU. I don't sell plastic, glue, or labels. Mostly coins. My wife does acrylics and stained glass, next door.![:joy: :joy:](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/joy.png)
We also have fresh farm eggs.
There is one B&M shop that I visit and the dealer told me that CAC coins do come in rarely and sell fast.

Not sure I’ve even see one in the last 10+ trips I’ve made to various shops. That said, most of the shops I visit are really there to buy gold/silver, and coin collections. I see very little selling activity, other than an occasional customer looking for a silver round as a graduation, or birthday present. The certified material in the cases don’t turn over much. The shops I visit are where you take Dad’s collection once he passes!

So from what I read here, CAC stickers are not common outside this forum and coin shops don't hold any decent material. So where are all the good coins? In collector holdings?
I agree CAC not a big deal outside this forum. Plus reject your generalization shops don’t have decent material. Further more CAC very small piece of slabs on eBay. I got a really nice deal on some Mexico one oz silver Gem BU Libertads at a shop. Since when does a coin have to be in a CAC holder to be decent?
We get them occasionally. Actually have one now.
