1878 S Morgan Vam?

I’m very new with this series and I am working on attributing this coin that was passed down to the family without removing it from its mount as of yet. I’m thinking it is Vam 38 due to the die chip on the F in OF. However, it looks to have separation on the P in Pluribus and the O in God. Also it looks to me to have a lower split serif on the mint mark
.

Thanks for looking

Cool coin, cooler bezel! :sunglasses: I’m pretty sure you’re right, though more pics would help. :)

Type collector, mainly into Seated. -formerly Ownerofawheatiehorde. Good BST transactions with: mirabela, OKCC, MICHAELDIXON, Gerard

Leave it in the jewelry. That’s a neat piece that will never straight grade.

Really ornate bezel. Doubt the coin would straight grade though. Have you checked the split serif against any known DD?? Cheers, RickO

Thanks for the input all, I knew it had problems as in hand I can see where someone tried to shine it up on occasion. As far as the DD, I’m not sure where to find that information yet but I will keep looking.
