The Hawaii Five-O $100,000 Nickel Episode Was On Last Friday...so...

The episode originally aired in 1973...therefore, adjusted for inflation...that would be a $700,000 1913 Liberty Head nickel today...so how does track with actual recent auction values?
But I also found the closing credits interesting in that two coin investment entities were thanked:
United National Coin Corp. in Beverly Hills and World Wide Coin Investments Ltd. in Atlanta...I thought that was a pretty advanced investment concept for nearly 50 years ago...when even vanilla mutual funds didn't even exist yet!
I wonder if either of these firms became a part of a firm that we'd know today?

Darn, I have been watching H5O on MeTV just about every Friday afternoon waiting for that episode. Went outside to trim some hedges and this is my reward. Hopefully it's available on demand
There have been several threads regarding the Hawaii Five-O Nickel. I'll try to locate one that should answer the subsequent auction history of the coin and link it here.
OK, here is a link to one of the threads. I see 6 million dollars was a figure thrown out.

So...$6 million vs. "normal" inflation of roughly $700,000....so that coin has appreciated like gangbusters!
Bob Mandel owned united national coin, around the corner from where I worked at Numismatics Limited in 1973 –
I believe John Hamrick was working with worldwide coin at that time.
I have the Hawaii Five-O $100,000 Nickel program on my Coins on Television website.

That episode is - IMO - the most frequently referenced coin TV show here on the forum... Usually two or three times a year. Cheers, RickO

As a classic Batman fan...I also liked that "King Tut" was knocking people off to get the coin!
Plus...it was interesting that one of the big gold Pan-Pac coins was highlighted on screen...I bet you could have bought that coin for a comparative song in 1973 vs. present day prices.
