Is this just an old fake 1852 quarter eagle or is there any collector value to it? Any information would be appreciated. I have looked for quite a while for a similar fake but to no avail.

This is a contemporary counterfeit intended to circulate as money and is most likely brass that's been gold plated. The dies used to make this coin were hand engraved while the more modern counterfeits intending to fool coin collectors use transfer dies made from an authentic gold coin. These are definitely collectable.

It somewhat resembles a pioneer gold issue with respect to the design elements, and I was going to suggest that it looked like brass, so I agree with @PerryHall's opinion.

As @PerryHall suggested above... likely gold plated brass. There is a sector of the collector community that specialize in these counterfeits. Cheers, RickO
Thanks guys! Appreciate the help. It does resemble a pioneer issue and that's why I thought it would be something special.
