Hello Everyone,
I am sad that I got an e-mail from Jack Beymer. Apparently he sold his inventory, and will be closing. He had three coins I was going to slowly pick off one at a time this year. I acquired my 1926 S FB Mercury Dime from him, and will miss this person in our hobby.
If you are in the group Jack, thank you for everything!

According to Jack’s website; his company has been bought out by Seth Chandler of Witter coin. So, not going out of business, just changing ownership…

I bought a very nice 1864 Small Motto Two Cent Piece from Jack Beymer about 15 years ago. That has been my only interaction with him, but it was a good one.
Great dealer and his his lovely wife!

Reach out to Seth Chandler at Witter Coin in SF who is the new owner of the Jack Beymer inventory. You might still be able to pick up those coins you've been eyeing.
All the best to Jack. I've bought several coins from him over the years.
Always had key dates in inventory pre web. Remember his ads from 30 years ago, maybe longer.
Beymer's stuff was high quality, and you knew you got a great coin when you bought it from his company.
Actually, I'm kinda surprised that he was still around this long.
Hadn't seen or heard anything about him in a while.

Beymer has been my LCS for 18 years now. I've always appreciated having a nationally known and respected business as my back yard LCS. He and his wife are not spring chickens and I'm not surprised they're cashing out. Congrats to them on a job well done for decades and I hope they enjoy their retirement.
I am a bit surprised that Seth picked it up. I'm very curious to see if he will shutter the LCS doors and move the new inventory to Lombard Street or if he'll keep Jack's brick and mortar location open. For purely selfish reasons I hope he lets the store stay open.
I noticed last week that Witter Coin has started running TV commercials here in Santa Rosa. That struck me as a bit of a coincidence.
He's been around for many years. May his retirement be nothing less then spectacular 🙏
Seth is planning to continue to operate out of the same location as far as I can tell from his IG posts- seems like they are cleaning up the store!
Best news I've heard all week.
I wonder if the inventory will be relisted on the whitter coin site? I just looked at Jack's site and do not see any inventory listed.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I talked to Jack at a major show, once. He was very friendly and took a lot of time with me. I really appreciated it. It was really cool meeting him, because I had seen his advertisements, since I was a kid. A real gentleman, pioneer and ambassador to the industry and hobby.

I guess I was one of his first customers back in 1964. I got a great deal on a really nice '13-D type 2 buff.
If the new owner is half as good he'll do very well.
His shop was on my regular "coin rounds" that included SF, San Jose, Walnut Creek, and Santa Rosa.
Long time ago.
Those were the days, my friends.
He always had a well rounded inventory.
I know that was not meant to be humorous, but there is something apropro about referring to a coin dealer's inventory as "well rounded." Not too many square coins in those flips.
The only thing Seth hasn't confirmed is whether or not the shop will continue as Jack Beymer Coins or rebrand to another outpost of Witter Coin. Otherwise it's definitely going to stay open in the same location, just with some "spiffiness" based on the post above.
Seth will likely remove the 'Jack H. Beymer' name and go by simply the 'Big Oak Plaza Coins' name, now.

My earliest dealing with Jack, was in 1974 when I was 15 years old. I was collecting Liberty Walking halves. He had a 1940-S half in Gem BU with a great strike. The price back then was $75 and that was way too rich for me. Jack and Sandy allowed for me to pay for the coin $5 per month until paid. Some time ago, I got the coin graded by our hosts and it graded MS-66. Probably can upgrade. Still have the coin and the invoice. Best of luck Jack and Sandy and to Seth.
He calls the current shop in San Fran
Witter Coin World Headquarters
Maybe the new shop should be
Witter Coin North Campus
When Jack moved from Coddingtown to way out in the cuts off Guernville road, I kinda stopped going there as much... plus, security at Don's is a tad more solid.
Gun shops are like that.
Happy trails Jack!
Not sure I'd call it out in the cuts, I kind of like that neighborhood. I wasn't a fan of the old location at the mall. Too many people around, yuck lol. I'm happy to see it'll stay around though, regardless of what they call it. If any of you go visit the place make sure to hit the Thai Food restaurant two business to the right of the coin shop, Thai Pot, crazy good.
I won't argue with you about security at Rinkor though. Being in the same building as the owners other business, the gun shop, definitely takes care of that.
I remember not too long ago Jack's shop got robbed. From what I can recall a couple crooks came in and asked to see some trays of gold. Then they grabbed the trays out of an employee's hands and ran. Luckily another employee smashed them out of the crooks hands as they were running out. The crooks then opened fire and put a few rounds into the shop as they ran off out the parking lot. That scenario would have worked out wildly differently at Don's.
Oh yeah, Thai Pot.
Need to see if their Plaa rad prik is any good. 😋
I just got a flier from Jack's the other day. I tied to buy some Merc's from him, but they were out of stock a year ago. I have gotten some coins from him and they were always accurately graded and priced at full retail pretty much. I did meet him and is wife in Chicago and they were very nice people.

About 10 years back, I bought a very damaged 1871-cc quarter from Jack. The price at $1750 was commensurate with the damage. I grew tired of its appearance and took the coin to Baltimore to sell, about 5 years ago. The Seated dealers did not want to look at the coin, let alone buy it. I offered it to Jack for what I paid and he agreed to buy it back.
I felt that maybe I was hasty in selling it, but was glad to get some money for it. As I walked onto the bourse the next day, I heard my name being called. It was Jack.
He said, "Ken I should have paid you at least another $500 for this coin!" He wrote me a check for $500 and I thanked him profusely!
Jack is a class act! How many dealers would do that?
Congrats to Jack and Seth! This seems like a great result for both parties!
I bought my 1955 DDO Lincoln from him around 1994-1996 time frame. It was in an ANACS AU55 holder. I wish I still had it.
Thank you to Jack, his wife and staff. I purchased many items from his shops (Coddingtown, then Big Oak Plaza) when I still lived in Santa Rosa.

Jack Beymer!!!
When I started to collect around 1965 I found Jack Beymer in a coin magazine ad and made my first mail purchase from him, some Lincoln Cents. Around 2000-2002 I happened to buy a book and folded away in the back of it was one of Jack's mailers from around 1982. I couldn't help but smile and mouthed the word "WOW" as I looked though the pages and marveled at the prices!! A few years later I went to the Pittsburgh ANA show with flyer in hand and visited the table of Jack Beymer, relating my early mail-order and journey through the Hobby, thanking him. We chatted for a few minutes, such a kind man.
When I first saw the thread title I assumed that Jack had passed away, I'm happy that isn't the case.
I'm surprised anyone had enough money to buy him out! Just look at a few of his ads, he always had multiple 1794 Large Cents, 1909-S VDB cents, 1889-CC and 1893-S Morgans, 1916-D Mercury dimes, etc., etc., etc. I don't think any other dealer had the shear number of coins he had for sale. Oh, and he was always willing to chat when you would meet him at a show.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
I always enjoyed seeing the Beymers at larger shows. Nice folks, and they always had great coins. Jack was one of the few dealers I'd have no trouble buying raw coins from. I wish them well!

Back in 2015(?) Jack was sitting with "Meet the Expert" David Hall at Long Beach. I showed David a 1945-P Merc in a PCGS MS67 holder. I thought the coin was FB.
David studied the coin and said, "You have to keep sending this in." (Meaning that he thought it could get the FB designation.)
Jack looked at the coin and commented, "Looks full bands to me."
I thought they were sincere in their opinions. Both of them should know with all the years of experience they have.
I may get around to sending it again soon.
Thanks for bringing up Jack's name and reminding me to visit the safe deposit box.
Do it! Don't let someone else reap the benefits!! Good Luck!!

Update us when you get the results.
Thanks guys!
I'll keep the coin if it doesn't get the FB designation.
You're right about someone else reaping the benefit of I were to sell it prematurely.
I love seeing all the positive comments about Jack Beymer coins. I have only had positive experiences with him since the mid 1970's. I always loved seeing his ads in the coin publications and have enjoyed talking with him over the years. Always a friendly conversation.
Have a picture of this dime?
No.
Got this from Jack at Long Beach 2019.
I'm happy for him on the retirement.
I liked dealing with his wife, she was always helpful and he is very knowledgeable.
Good luck to Seth on this new adventure, or perhaps extension of the current one!
