Speaking of the recent Stacks auction, did anyone see or follow this Lafayette Dollar?
What do you think of the toning (NGC called it AT) and the price (final hammer was $1,020 with the fee)?
Do think it will eventually straight grade?

I did not win it-my bid was lower than the final price.

If it is tried enough times then it will definitely get in a straight-graded holder. However, the number of times, and the associated costs to get it in that holder, are undetermined.

That is the ultimate question, along with the grade. It sold for above generic MS 62 money but below MS 63 prices. One would likely need a 62 grade within the first or second attempt to be ahead with the toning premium (a 63 would allow the costs from more attempts to be recouped).

    I don’t see it straight grading…

The toning looks natural to me. Coin needs to be cracked out and submitted to PCGS.

The coin is lifeless, somewhat dull even with the peripheral ring. Sold above my perceived value.

    Others may find it attractive.

The coin looks as if it sat in an old album for long, long time. I like the toning.

Coin looks dipped and lifeless, then cooked to get that artificial color , should be worth about MS 60-62 money, or around the $ 1000 price it got
