Grade opinion desired (penny)... grade affected by natural toning?

I know it's not going to be worth anything truly substantial, but I was interested in getting this 2001 d penny prof. graded. I'm thinking an MS 68? I have a lot to learn with the grading system, though. Also, would the toning positively or negatively affect the grade? Thanks!!

The coin’s color would cause it to be designated RB or BN, as opposed to RD, which would lower the value. Additionally, I don’t think it would grade anywhere close to 68.
So in my opinion, if you were to submit the coin for grading, you’d be throwing your money away.

Spender, you would be well ahead if you lit some twenty dollar bills on fire vs sending this coin for grading. If you want to see what an MS68 really looks like check out the coin facts page on the main PCGS site. And for future reference toning on copper cons can also affect the grade if the graders consider the toning to be unattractive or hinder the look of the coin.

I have yet to see a PCGS MS68 Lincoln cent that wasn't also a luster bomb.

With what looks like wear I’d be surprised if it didn’t grade AU58.

If you really want to learn then send it in and burn your money. You won't forget how you lit a bunch of bills to get a circulated coin in plastic.

@irontoad30.... Welcome aboard. As indicated above, your cent is not even MS, and certainly not a lofty 68. Looks like perhaps and AU coin... Check the reference given above, and get a Redbook.... Cheers, RickO

But at least you got a cool picture.

@irontoad30 I agree with the above comments. The coin looks AU, don't spend money on it.

@irontoad30 This coin is an obviously circulated example with fingerprints to boot, and will only ever be worth one cent. Please don't waste time and money on submitting it.
