1910-D Barber Half

Here is a fascinating story I ran across, knowing a brother of the party involved. Apparently a 1910-D Barber half that was never supposed to be placed in circulation was gotten in change at Durez Chemical in Niagara Falls, NY back in the late 1970's.
The coin did not sell at the mentioned show, and was sent back to Wilson, NY in the mail. It never arrived. There is a good chance this coin is still out there.

Yikes.... sounds like the US Postal service has done it again!
There's no such issue. Was it a 1910-S ?
Possibly a 1910-D quarter ?
Dan Carr's grandfather may have been involved.
No, a Barber half that said 1910 on the front, and with a D mintmark on the reverse. There was another article my friend is looking for.

Not a chance, it's a fake.

It sure would be exciting if this coin does show up. A lot of experts looked at it back then, and considered it genuine..... No doubt it would be subjected to even greater scrutiny now. It must be somewhere. Unless melted.... Cheers, RickO
Why ever would a mint incur the colossal setup costs to punch out just one or two coins? It might be different if there were some documentation indicating that hundreds or thousands had been produced and then melted for some reason. But this, no.
Sorry, not a chance of the details being correct and the piece being an authentic US Mint product. I know some folks like to believe in coin fairytales, but this one ain't real.
