Unique certified Quarter variety, need some directions

silviosisilviosi Posts: 458 ✭✭✭

This it is an 1969-D Type D Quarter. As per speak it is the only one certify.
I didn't have a very clear answer from CS at PCGS. I will like to be in PCGS slab and CAC and also as by my opinion is PL ANACS do not recognize. I have to send for regrade in the slab?, because the FS-901 PCGS stop at Type C.

Any hint how to process?

Sorry the photos are blurry, In two weeks I have the new Ray photo system and will be better.

Regardless, CAC doesn't consider clad Washingtons.

The 69-d type D is pretty rare but also often confused with type E.

It is not the rarest of the RDV but its a nice variety.

100% agree with you. For the 1969-D (the only year and mint denomination) we have 5 varieties. Type D and E is hard to see, but differences are there. Me I consider as:
Type D very scarce (only in some sets)
    Type E common
    Type F Rare
    Type M (G) Scarce
    Type H Rare

The only one I see before was Herb who has, but for one reason or other was circulated.

So CAC do not certify, OK. I will like to have in PCGS slab, so I have to send in ANACS slab? Yes?

    thanks

PCGS recognizes the 1969-D/D FS-501 and FS-502 varieties, but I do not see anywhere that they recognize the Type D variety. Also, as has been mentioned, CAC does not evaluate or sticker clad WQs. Good luck with your very scarce coin.

If anyone is interested, here is a presentation (Wiles, 2003) on "Washington Quarter Reverse Design Varieties". It includes a rarity chart (page #9).

OP - If you are unsuccessful at PCGS, it appears that NGC recognizes at least one of the reverse "type" varieties (Breen). It might be worth a call, or e-mail to check on "Type D".

Thank you for the tips, the NGC will recognize, add to theirs's database, photos and also if past the test as proof like.

What surprise me it is PCGS which stop at the Type C. CS (customer service) was very ambiguity with the response, something as no specialist on this, can you believe??? me no.

    @silviosi

You did not seem very confident in the response from PCGS CS (i.e., "I didn't have a very clear answer from CS at PCGS" and "CS [...] was very ambiguity with the response"). So, when I was speaking with them this morning about another issue, I took the liberty of asking about this.

FWIW, the CS rep I spoke with said that for PCGS coin #5884, they ONLY 'recognize/attribute' two die varieties - repunched mintmark FS-501, and repunched mintmark FS-502. Then I specifically asked about the 'Type D/RDV-004' reverse design variety. She told me that PCGS does not 'recognize/attribute' this, or any other, reverse design variety for this coin.

Thank you I will go with NGC. I really appreciate your help and actions. Hope one day I will be able to present you the all those varieties collection which all will be in my book.

My apologies to all. I am NOT randomly re-posting my old posts.

@PCGS_Moderator - There appears to be a system issue. This is the second time in the last two days that one of my old posts was mysteriously re-posted without any action on my part. This time, my old post was re-posted multiple times.

    Please investigate, and correct.

    Thanks.

Is there a reason my posts never get auto-reposted? I'm feeling discriminated against.
