Uniquely toned Morgan

I realize that some collectors may not like this type of toning at all.
I personally love it. It's worth a share and if you have something similar it would be a pleasure to see it.
The obverse is PL to boot. I can't tell if the reverse is but the colors on the devices work just fine for me.

    the rev screams AT

Then it adds: "clumsy, ugly, amateurish"

That would be a pass for me.... At first I thought the cheek scratch might be on the slab, but I magnified the picture, and it appears to be on the coin. Cheers, RickO

Too much egg yolk on the reverse.

That turned in the holder imho. I'd try for the grade guarantee.

It pains me to write this since I can tell you are quite happy with the coin, but it appears to have had a substance (or substances) applied to it in order to "pop" and that the substances have turned the coin in its holder. In my opinion, this is a case of AT gone bad.

Isn’t it just a crapshoot when you send a toned coin to PCGS or another grading company? I don’t know how you can tell the difference between AT&NT.

Even professional grading companies make mistakes. This was a mistake.

I kinda like the toning on the reverse, but the cheek is a no go. Way to busy with marks and the scratch.

Some examples ride the fence, some are very easy to tell the difference. Not a total crapshoot but not a totally perfect science either, just like grading.

I have always thought that this toning is a definitive example of artificial toning. Granted we are looking at a photo but....
As to the obverse also like many here have said that scratch is a deal killer, again we are grading off a photo and as everyone knows can be problematic but......

It's certainly worthwhile to discuss whether the colors are Natural or Artificial. But in the end it doesn't matter --- because the reverse is UGLY!

    Pass, not for me

  • PizzamanPizzaman Posts: 305 ✭✭✭

Something happened to it, a chemical spill, maybe something of that nature. Still, it's just tarnish. I like that PCGS graded it. Although the reverse does look a little rubbed, I have to tell you.

I saw the obverse and thought it looked pretty nice (sans scratch on the cheek) and that I wouldn't qualify the toning as unique. Then I scrolled and... oh.

Luckily it is unique and no others.
