Yes, PMD. Damage on opposite side confirms it.
I initially thought it may be the remains of delamination since I see the start of another portion delaminating on Abe's cheek. However, the scrape across the O and C on the reverse suggests Abe lost a fist fight many years ago.
Definitely PMD.
If it was some sort of struck through, it would not have affected the reverse.
