CSNS Pioneer Gold Newp / Update - new photos and another Newp

I don't really have the energy to do an in depth show report, but I spoke with quite a few dealers who said they were having a great show. Attendance was strong, lots of the younger dealers were wheeling and dealing from table to table, and the premiums on generic gold are insane right now. Tons of wholesale action, and strong prices on the premium coins, as per usual. Not much has changed.

I hadn't had much luck finding the earlier type coins I needed, so I was just keeping an eye out for nice Type 1 or Type 2 Lib 20s when this caught my eye. Once I picked it up, it was hard to put it back down. I had to pay up for this one, but these are tough to find nice and most that come to market have been abused. This one has a nice patina and is mostly original, no serious abrasions, and a semi prooflike fields under the crust. Even if this is a 45 by technical standards, Id pick this coin over most 50s or 53s I can find in auction records, and I'm happy to add this one to the stable. Enjoy

Edited to add: I just looked some of these up. This one is DEFINITELY a beauty compared to others I just looked at of comparable grade.

Dan, great find! That will fit wonderfully in a collection of double eagles. Much respect for being able to quickly pivot on something that you weren’t looking for, but realized was special.

@messydesk is working on the photos of this coin and my 1799, from what I saw they will be much better than the existing photos, I’ll post them here when he send them over.

Here’s one more Newp I grabbed on the last day, I think this is a great looking 58 and I actually did not have to pay up for this coin, got the NGC discount. Too bad I didn’t have this coin at the time to hand over to @messydesk. This might be a coin to cross to CACG, as I would prefer a clear slab with nice photos and I don’t intend to throw money at PCGS in the hope that they would cross it, even though I think it would cross easily.

I was in the process of selling one of my 2 Cent pieces to a dealer when another customer came up and wanted to sell the dealer a $50 gold Humbert slug, I asked the seller if I could have a close look at it and he had no problem handing it to me, I'm guessing I had around 50k in my hand.

Thank you for the kind words @ParadimeCoins! That one is also pretty superb, and one of the few others that I would consider for my collection if It was on the market and I were looking for one. Love the hair detail, these really are tough to find without them having chunks missing or completely stripped surfaces, and often times poorly struck where you cant see the definition in the radial lines of the stars. I'm pretty happy with my purchase, especially considering that the 58+ was probably double the price if not more.
