I went to a local coin show today hoping to get an upgrade for my Jefferson registry set. No luck. On the way out I saw this. I couldn't let it just sit there any longer. A bit out of my wheelhouse but PCGS says only about 700 of these slabs were produced with about half being Danny Kayes Israeli coins. Plus it's an overdate.

That’s quite a find. Was it moon money?

Definitely a rare slab for those collectors

The coin looks better than MS62. The slab itself looks a bit dirty so it is hard to say what grade is correct.

I remember seeing a couple for sale many years ago. They had Israeli coins in them. I passed thinking how large the holder was and probably would have made a fortune if I had bought them. Hindsight is 20/20.

  • How much does a vintage PCGS casing like that sell for?

  • Oh man that's a great find.
I'd really like to have one of those for my collection.

No. The pinnacle of slabs is the first generation black NGC slab. It's rarer and far more valuable than the PCGS Regency slab.

Great acquisition, I guess "buy the coin not the slab" doesn't apply to this one - :)

  • Is it worth selling or do these rare slabs keep increasing year after year?

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

I am not a slab collector, however, I have always liked those Regency slabs. Never saw one at a show. If I saw one cheap - or reasonable - I would likely buy it, no matter what coin it housed. Green is a favorite color, maybe that is what attracts me.. Cheers, RickO

The coin looks better than MS62.

Yeah, maybe you should crack it out and resubmit to PCGS!! :)

What are the odds of getting the 1887 Morgan overdate in a regency slab? Who knew one even existed in this slab?

    Congrats
