GTG / Did it Cross? 1880-CC 8/L7 VAM 6 DMPL - REVEALED 4/28/23!

I am anxiously awaiting my crossover results. I will post the result when it becomes available in the next day or two.
The coin was in an NGC holder with DPL designation.
For the purposes of discussion, assume I selected "Cross at any DMPL grade."
I understand it is difficult to assess mirrors based on photos. Do the best you can.
For extra fun, guess the NGC and PCGS grade.

    NGC 63DPL > PCGS 62DMPL

Very nice coin, likely around 64 dmpl, but standards have tightened on these.

I would say 64 DPL to 63DMPL.... Cheers, RickO

Very nice Vam 6 and should cross the same, and you get gold dust on the coin, or is it cookies that the grader was eating :)

    REVEAL!!!
Yes, it crossed at MS63 DMPL.
I think it deserves a + but I'm OK with the straight 63. The gash on the chin and the field in front of the face is a bit scratchy so I can see them not giving it MS64 but this is a dang nice 63 IMO.

Looks a bit scuffier in Tru view pics. I was only off by a point with your pics. Nice coin. For those who say NGC grading is not as good as our host here is yet another example that they are.

Edited to fix auto correct errors.

I think it's a coin that could go either way. It does seem the PCGS "rounds down" and NGC "rounds up."
I'm confident it will CAC, would be very surprised and disappointed if it didn't. It would never CAC as a 64.

If it will CAC did NGC round up?

How do you figure? A 63 (green) CAC is not a 64.

Exactly. You said NGC seems to round up but they graded it a 63 not a 64 which would be rounded up.

I see the source of confusion.
this was originally NGC MS64DPL. It crossed at MS63DMPL. I see that I failed to communicate that above. Sorry about that.

Am I missing something, or is the coin worth hundreds of dollars less in a PCGS 63DMPL holder than in an NGC MS64DPL one?

@MFeld people constantly say PCGS graded coins are worth more in the market than NGC even if it drops a point in grade. I guess not in this case.

My guess is that the percentage of those instances (in which a PCGS coin is worth more, even at a full grade lower) is on the small side.

I did not pay PCGS MS64 DMPL money for the coin and I bought it anticipating the drop so I made sure I paid accordingly with the plan to cross it over. Had the dealer wanted 64 DMPL money I would never have bought it.

I’m glad for you that you obtained the coin at a favorable price and that you’re pleased with the “crossover” result. Still, that doesn’t change the reality that its value probably took a pretty substantial hit with the downgrade.

While I won't deny that a holder influences the value, the dealer priced it accordingly. We'll never know but I bet if he thought he could get 64 money he would have priced it that way.
