Before and after blackly toned Morgan

I decided to crack out this 1878 7tf Morgan after getting a disappointing grade from ICG. Understandably they erred on the side of caution, obverse was darkly toned but no more:

Wow 99% of black toning came off. What method did you use.

What % dilution, how long of a dip and rinse process?

100%, 5 seconds or so. Q tip on obverse. Running water. Repeated more than once but dabbed Q tip on obverse to pull off black.

You have to be very careful with dipping, because it pulls off silver even if a slight amount. Once or twice and after that you are damaging the coin and some purists would say that the coin was damaged even with this dip.

Thanks. I've only dipped occasionally to conserve when blackish like yours. Either 50% solution for a few seconds or if in a hurry 100% for like 2 seconds. Might dab with Q-tip on spots then long rinse with luke warm running water.

Thanks for sharing the results. In the photo the obverse looks flat, lacking luster. The reverse looks better. How does it look in hand?

Overall I think it is an improvement.
    Nice album coin.

It looks better, but from the photos the obv has that over dipped burnt look and might still get a details grade if resubmitted.

Due to chatter in obverse fields I'd call it MS60-2 depending on their assessment, also looks PL, but maybe not enough contrast. Probably not a coin that would ordinarily justify a submission but ICG has been good about coins like this in the past and for $12 or so may add value. Razor thin margins if you are looking to sell a coin like this I paid $60 for originally and $15 with Icg and shipping.

It went from Environmental Damage to Unc Details.

@logger7... Will you be resubmitting the coin? Would like to know the results if you do. Cheers, RickO

Just my opinion, I didn't care for it before and don't care for it now.
