Coins and guns. Has anyone traded guns for coins/bullion with a coin shop? Would it be a really weird question when calling a shop to ask? I would think in some states there may be laws against it.

Can't do it here in NY unless the shop has an FFL. Some pawn shops do, coin shops here, i doubt it.

I’m from Scranton, PA which has pretty relaxed firearm laws. I know people who when they list a gun on our local Papershop they will put in the ad they are willing to accept bullion for guns. A family member of mine has done that a few times. I myself am heavily involved in both hobbies though these days I’m focusing more on coins. At the Gun Shows in the NEPA area it is fairly common to see people selling both coins and guns. It just depends on the situation I’m sure but I feel in gun friendly states there is a lot of overlap between the two hobbies.(Of course firearms made Pre 1898 can be bought in sold anywhere just like any other antique.)

In NYS, the exchange can only be made through an FFL holder. None of the firearm shops I visit deal in coins. At gun shows here, there are always a few tables with coins and guns. While I have never asked, I am sure some dealers would entertain bullion for firearms. Cheers, RickO

I have done it where I traded guns for bullion (in a coin shop) and I have also bought and sold guns for bullion. Georgia doesn't require a bill of sale for either so it's a good way to keep your transactions below the horizon.

If you had that bumper sticker on your car in 1933, the feds would have raided your home and tore it apart looking for your gold. :o

Many pawn shops buy and sell guns and coins and frequently a trade can be made. All legal gun sales and purchases in the US require a transfer by an FFL holder after completing ATF Form 4473 and a federal background check. Contrary to what many people think, you can't just walk into a gun shop and throw some money on the counter and then walk out with a gun. Here in Florida, there is a three day waiting period if you don't have a CCW permit.

Never considered swapping my firearms or anything else for coins. I keep life simple. Money for coins.

Besides, I intend on keeping "all" of my firearms. They are near and dear to my heart. :)

    Just coins, no guns.

Never seen that in MD, but I've seen coin dealers set up at gun shows. Mostly low end stuff and bullion... and be on the lookout for counterfeits. I was at a gun show in Frederick MD where a dealer had a "1877" IHC... it did not have the shallow N reverse and the obverse had numerous contact Mark's around the date. He was somewhat offended when I handed it back to him and just said "good luck with that". At a gun show in AZ I recall a dealer accepting Seated Dollars as payment for firearms... and then having security try to run after the seller when he realized most of them were fakes.

As a result... I mostly compartmentalize the two...
