My Black Beauty

I thought I posted this but I don't think I actually sent it through. If I did I apologize. I searched and didn't see it.
I did do a little research and the consensus is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
This Morgan has nice tones when moved around. Very deep purples, cobalt blue with a splash of red here and there. It lustrous and I believe if dipped would be PL or a chance at DMPL. I believe it to be natural toning and not AT.
I just want to share it as it's part of my collection.

  • BTW see how much easier it is to image a coin that's non-reflective.

Interesting coloring, isn't it? Sometimes silver can naturally tone in this manner, if it's exposed to sulphur gas, even in small concentrations. (usually hydrogen sulfide) However, if you look closely, you can see spotting on the coin in multiple places. This is an indicator that the coin was dipped in a dilute sulfuric acid, and rinsed with water. I'm not trying to hate on the coin, I think it looks neat as well, but it's highly unlikely that it's NT.

Looks cleaned or dipped and retoned to me. I don’t think it would straight grade. Look closely at the areas around the lettering and devices. They are a slightly different color. If you are getting tired of these reactions (and I’m sure it is frustrating) I strongly suggest you only buy slabbed coins.

@Watchtower ... Difficult to judge from pictures, although I do see the points mentioned above. Suggest you submit it and get a professional opinion. Let us know. Cheers, RickO

Other than the blotchiness in the right field (obverse), I like it.
It offers that leather pouch kind of dark toning that I find attractive.
It also appears to have limited marks (although dark toning can sometimes
    cover that up).
I know the luster is muted, but I think it is a neat Morgan and looks different in an excellent way.

Based on the areas of haze and halos around portions of the design in each side, my guess is that the coin has been cleaned and re-toned. Regardless, I don’t think it merits the cost of grading.

I actually really like the look of it, even if it was possibly tinkered with. It would grab my attention if i was scrolling through morgans.

  • I still like it.
    It is what it is.
Better than pissing away money at a casino. I've has some trips that would make plenty of people puke. I don't do that anymore.
I also submitted coins through a dealer. He said I'll have them back on the fall sometime.
