Here is a WLH you don't see every day

I don't really want to part with this coin. I came across it during my countless hours of searching for PQ WLH's. It is the one WLH non proof I own that shows quality beyond anything I have seen. I have to look long and hard to find any disturbances on this coin. There is a 67+ for sale on ebay. You can see why the grade was held to back without to much effort. I won't post it here because it doesn't belong to me. It's still a nice coin but comparing apples for apples this coin looks very PQ to me.
I figured I would post it because I never got a chance to enjoy bragging rights. It has a little pimple on the reverse that's kind of interesting. It's not a ding.
I'd like to see this coin in a PCGS holder.

That's a nice one!
That is one truly gorgeous Walker. Congrats. Don't blame you for not parting with it.

Even the common MS67 Walkers are worth at least $700, the next grade up quite a bit higher. What I have seen in MS67 graded coins is that they are all there with minor luster grazes or something else that keeps it from 68.

I honestly don't see much of anything. I feel this coin is a safe crackout and resubmission. It's toned golden yellow so I don't believe it's been dipped and I wouldn't do anything to change that. The strike is off the charts. It's a super cool coin. I still love WLH's I just fell really hard for Morgans.
You can find really nice 1943 WLH's to. Probably the most inexpensive high grade of the series.
Be careful, you could lose hundreds if you cause a nick or 2 in the crackout process.
I was planning on just a quick smash with a hammer.
I agree. I will take it slow. I will probably just cut the top and bottom off wit a plasma cutter.
Nice coin. Why not just leave it in the holder it is in?

Thsts a fair question.
PCGS has graded 50 67+ 1943D WLH with only 6 finer. That would be good company to be in.
I don't see it downgrading and I wonder just how close to 68 it actually is.
I bought a coin from a dealer once. It was an OTC. It was in a 67+ holder. I asked him why there is so much of a premium over a 67 for plus grades. His response was and this is the truth and his words not mine. "Because lots of 67+ coins end up in 68 holders".
I am sure that doesn't apply to the majority of 67+ coins but no doubt that some do.
So if I want to have it graded by PCGS because they are the premier TPG with a much lower population it would be one heck of a bonus to see it in a 68 holder. BTW that's not my reason for crossing and I wouldnt do it if that was my purpose for crossing.
67+ with 6 finer or 67+ with 13 finer.
Just a though anyway. It's a nice enough coin that I believe it would cross to pcgs 67+.
Its definitely a nice coin, but you would be taking a chance at a downgrade also. Then there is a possibility of some damage if you crack it out yourself. It doesn't take much in the way of marks on a coin to drop it to a 66. If it were mine I would be happy with it just how it is.

Have you done that before? the heat could give you an AT.
If you want to cross it nothing wrong with sending it to PCGS for crossover with a min 67+. It is worth more in the PCGS holder. If you try to crack it out and submit raw I think you are significantly more likely to get a 67 than a 68. A 68 is a $30-$40K coin. Big upside but why risk the downgrade?
I didn't realize you could send it in with a grade on it. So they will look at it and determine if they agree with the grade then they will crack it out?
Correct. If they don’t think it’s a 67+ (or better) they will leave it in the NGC holder. The crossover success rate is not generally all that high but it’s a risk-free option (minus the cost of the submission, obviously). Most people think they are conservative with the crossover (and you pay a 1% premium) since the holder may hide issues and perhaps the graders have some reluctance to upgrade the other guy’s holder.
That's kind of how I feel. That's why cracking it out was a thought. Just a thought. The feedback is always good here. It provokes thought that ultimately leads to a better decision as far as I am concerned. After this discussion I am leaning towards leaving it alone. That's why I like to post subjects like this. Maybe just maybe it will help someone else. If nothing else it helped me.
Thank you!
Cross and regrade if necessary
Definitely a premium WLH.... I think it should at least keep the grade... And the grade is such a borderline call to a 68 it well could upgrade Worth a try, and let us know what happens. Cheers, RickO
Great strike and great surfaces… you couldn’t ask for much better.
