GNA Show report.

The Georgia Numismatic Association show is held each April at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center in Dalton. It is a nice facility with plenty of free parking.

Since my car died earlier in the week,I managed to borrow our daughter's car for the day to go to the show. I left home a little before daylight. After a little over an hour, I went through the Hardee's drive through for breakfast.

I arrived at the show a little after the 10 AM opening. There was a very good crowd already there. I started up an aisle in the middle of the room. I noticed that there was more paper money on the bourse floor than I think I have ever seen at any show except the 40 years of the International Paper Money Show in Memphis!

I saw several young guys on the floor and a few women at the show. I think that is a good sign for the future.

After a couple of hours at the show I became very hungry. I should have eaten more at Hardee's. I went to the concession stand and got a $3 corndog. I very, very rarely get anything to eat at a show. A lady, waiting in line, asked me if it was good. I said no.

Bullion prices for Ricko: 100 ounce silver bars were $2900, silver rounds were $32, American Eagles were $40 and circulated pre-1921 Morgan Dollars were $ 39.

There were a lot of collectors looking for items for their collection, but I did not see much money changing hands. I did hear two different collectors look at a coin and say the prices were too high. I probably would not worry about the price if I could only find something that I need.

I had a nice chat with Grant Campbell, Dennis Schafluetzel and Darrel ( The King of Barber coins ). After several passes around the floor, I had found nothing and decided to head for home.

I ran into terrible Friday rush hour traffic on the way home. I got home about an hour before dark. Although I did not find anything for my collection, I did have a good time.

Well, at least you got a crappy corndog. Sounds like not a lot was going on. It happens sometimes but this is an odd time in Numismatics. Prices on just about everything are skyrocketing, even bullion gold and silver. Thanks for the report!

    Thanks for posting your report.

I’m used to getting the (Florida) dealers’ perspective on the Dalton show, and it’s generally rave reviews. Most of that is for the dealer to dealer business of course. And I haven’t heard anything about this year’s show.

I skipped this one but I am pretty sure my report would have been very similar.

@golden... Thanks for the report. Glad you enjoyed the show, and I have attended many coin shows where I did not buy something.... Then others that strained the wallet. ;) Cheers, RickO
