An estimated 1 million dimes worth $100,000 was taken. Total on the truck was $750,000 in dimes.

Investigators believe $100,000 was stolen (1 million dimes)

  • CaptHenwayCaptHenway Posts: 32,358 ✭✭✭✭✭

No, they said that out of the $750,000 in dimes approximately $100,000 was stolen, or approximately;y one million dimes.

Sounds like they just broke into a random truck conveniently parked in the middle of nowhere and were not equipped to move ballistic bags that weigh roughly 4,000 pounds.

Whole lot of dimes in Walmart's parking lot ... stay tuned for the Errors :)

So they went into the Walmarts and bought several trash bins to put the coins in. Besides the security cameras the Police are looking at, what are the chances that somebody bought multiple trash bins with a traceable credit or debit card??????

Will take a lot of patience to pass or convert a million dimes without raising suspicion. Coinstar?

Looks like a LOT of parking lot finds are being created.

I'm just wondering what the exact contract specifications stated regarding security procedures for this contractor.

Pick up the cash from the Mint and go home take a nap. Sure, no problem! 😂 🤣

    Probably paid with dimes.

Is my calculation correct that the estimated weight of the dimes stolen is 5,000 lbs? They must have went next door and rented a Home Depot truck. Lol

@Tramp 5,000 lbs was my estimate too. Now I'm reading up to $200,000 was stolen (4.5 tons).

Was it the same group which stole a truck full of nickels a few years ago?

Does the mint have insurance ? I suppose the loss will be charged to the taxpayers, like everything else.

Watch the BST for someone selling a ballistic bag of dimes.

Other than Coinstar, and a few minor purchases, it will not be easy to dispose of these. I would think Coinstar will be alerted for major dime quantities being converted. And surveillance video will surely be available.... Cheers, RickO

I saw a surveillance video the other day of some teenagers breaking into a Mazda Miata with the intention of joy riding it - they hot wired it just fine, got it started but then couldn't figure out how to get it to go - none of the idiots knew how to drive a manual transmission. >:)
