    It never occurred to me that there were years that the Mint didn't make proof coins. But a quick search of Ebay says none exist? That is a very cool letter! I love history, and anything associated with the Mint or government in general.

    Yes there was a break in proof coinage after 1916 until 1936, then again after 1942 until 1950, then yet again in 1965-67 when they made special mint sets instead of proof sets.
