Go Ahead Try To Find One

BuffaloIronTailBuffaloIronTail Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭✭✭

The 1924-D Nickel is so well known in coin circles for the flat top feather it has, that anyone having one please post it here.

The only one I've ever seen is in the late Ron Pope's Abraided Die Varieties book.

I still can't believe it even after viewing it.

I don't know, maybe I'm crazy. There are certain things about Buffs that I consider cannon.

I for sure, will never stop learning.

I believe you want to see one with a fully struck top feather (not clear in the OP)... They are certainly not common.... Cheers, RickO

Hmm.. This is something I was never aware of before. It's always nice to learn new things from you all! If anyone has an example of this date with a full strike, it would probably be @crazyhounddog

That's the only one I've ever seen with a fully formed top feather. (That's the pic I was talking about)

They look mostly like the one above, very weak at the tip and upwards.

By Jove, I think you've found one! It's not flat at the bottom for sure.

Problem is, the lamination on it messes it up visually.

    You win the challenge.

Probably not as strong a strike as the one in Ron Popes book. Hard to tell from pics. But it seems like a decent strike.

After looking at a bunch of 24's i can see what you are talking about with the lack of detail.

It is interesting, i will add it to my "2 feathers" when im searching buffalo nickels.

Always fun to learn something new.
