@alaura22: no auction for this group Mike. I think they’re pretty obscure to most but a small group of collectors. I picked Paradime for their marketing expertise + wealth of contacts. Plus, as a small dealer, they have the ability to formulate a presentation that’s specific & best fits this special set of coins.

Ken, absolutely the right move. Seeing what happened with the re-sale on some of the Blay collection recently at auction. You never know who will show up and with those coins it's not worth the risk
    Good luck

Thanks! More than 3 years. I can’t really improve on it much as there’s so few of these available. So, time to sell & reload for something else. The thrill of the hunt never goes away! Besides, I think coins like these should be shared.

And some luck & being in the right place @ the right time! The S-1 was a cherrypick @ ANA by a collector friend of mine. The S-2 was being sold by an antique & collector’s dealer on his Instagram page. The S-3 was sold by Rick Snow after he didn’t get the upgrade to 65 he hoped for. The S-4 was also sold by Eagle Eye; the seller was a generalist. The S-5, S-9 & 1857 were sold by a collector when he retired his set. The SL was involved in a swap with a fellow collector. Finally, the LL was poorly depicted in a HA auction.
But, you’re right & it was still tough to put it together.

Announcement: Paradime Coins has put a banner up on their website this AM:

They have included information about each coin in the set & instructions for getting future emails about the sale, which takes place through their website (www.paradimecoins.com) on September 1, 2025. They have further put out flyers on CAC, Greysheet, The Numismatist, Coin World & other related publications. The nine coins will also be displayed @ the World’s Fair of Money in Oklahoma City on August 20-23.

    NEWP:

New obv slab pic with the green bean.

    OLDP:

These make for a nice companion pair - 1857 & 1858 FE’s both with the foam gasket insert to keep the coin from rattling in the rattler. I don’t see these “Foamies” very much anymore. The OLDP has the updated pic of the coin with the EEPS. It also correctly indicates it’s the SL type - back in rattler days they didn’t distinguish between SL & LL. The label has the LL ID#, which was the only one used at that time.

@Copperindian, Ken, nor did they distinguish the two through the OGH era as this small date 1858 uses the same coin designation as yours (2019), for the large date. Zack.

    @jfriedm56:

Good info Zack - I wasn’t sure when they started distinguishing between the two. It has to be with the early blue tags.

    Pretty Bird Flyer:

Great eye appeal & solid for the grade (but it’s not a 66). I do have a 66 that deserves a + grade but it’s failed 3 times so I’m done trying. I have a collector friend that wants it so I just might give in & sell it. Anticipating I might do that, I bought this one to replace it.
Aside: this is the first post in two months in this great thread. Where have all the FE collectors flown?

    Breakthrough coin:

Why “breakthrough”? For umpteen years, this ultra rare variety showed a single AU58 in the pop (no MS examples). Next were 2 XF45 examples (I owned 1 of them until a recent sale). This coin rates #2 behind that 58.
It’s truly stunning, with a clear $20 outline & surfaces befitting the grade. JMO - but it further has really nice eye appeal.
It was submitted to CAC recently & declined. My guess the reason was evidence of a light wipe underneath the even chocolate BN patina from decades ago. As an aside, none of the other 3 coins cited above have been CAC approved either. I will submit @ the upcoming CS show to obtain the EEPS.
Finally, here’s the TV; I think the coin is more fairly depicted above:

Regarding the S-7 in the above post, there are only 53 examples graded in the PCGS pop. Most of those are up to & including VF35 (2 there).
    The top 5:

    • 1 XF40
    • 2 XF45
    • 1 AU53 (the one above)
    • 1 AU58.

The die clash trio from 1857:

The S-7 is the toughest; the highest graded is a AU58; this coin is 2nd highest!

This S-8 is tied for finest known!

The S-9 is “easiest” to find among the three. Pop is 9/3 (I did own one of the “3” but liked this one better).

Ha, I haven’t been looking recently but I should. You know I have the #1 1858 12 piece pattern set. I also have the complete Eliasberg 12 pc original set. Stewart never had it, he just claimed he did. But sine the original set in the 1990’s, I’ve been able to put it back together.
