Looks like maybe a dropped filling.
Most examples I have seen for dropped filings are recessed into the coin. This is proud of the surface. Can this type of error occur both ways?
Interesting finds.... I would definitely save them and see if @FredWeinberg posts an answer here. Cheers, RickO
Machine doubling-Not a DD.
I have seen a lot of machine doubling with a shelf like appearance on lettering. Never anything like this where the full letters are duplicated.
That middle bar right of Bessie has a split serif to my eye. That would eliminate MD would it not?![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I think you might have something there....perhaps Fred will chime in when he's back from fishing?

Your coin is just another example of the sub standard coins coming out of the Philadelphia Mint in 2023.
The quality is not up to snuff when looking at Denver examples.
I don't know what to say about your coin as far as strike.

Check out the designer's initials.![:o :o](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/open_mouth.png)
I like.
Someone with more expertise than me needs to explain this clearly.
I think you may have found something and to have found 2 of them. Wow! Great luck.

I actually found 7 of them with varying degrees of the doubling on the designers Initials. Some have just the C, some have the C and part of the E.
Are the initials incuse? I think there was a thread here a while back that determined that machine doubling on incuse lettering will look like traditional traditional hub doubling we see on relief lettering. Since you're seeing varying degrees of doubling I don't think this is a doubled die because if it was, it would be identical from coin to coin.
Agreed, if the spread of the lettering is different on the examples that you found it must be a striking issue.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
They are not pressed into the coin. They are raised off of the surface.

This one is very interesting. I don't like the fact that it moves around. If they were all the same, that would be good.
I just saw another one on ebay that has a different position of the artifact or whatever.
This topic needs more discussion for educational purposes.
At first I thought dropped letters but not possible. Reengraved somehow?
Interesting piece

The initials are incuse on the coin, because it is moving around it appears to be incuse machine doubling.![;) ;)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
