So I bought this Fairmont 1856 $20 Lib in 61. MS in this date is not at all common.
The one thing is the grease stain going from Star 11 through her hair.
Don’t exactly bother me but I would also be happy without it.
Is it an issue for anyone else?

Nice coin. The hair issue doesnt bother me. The cheek and eye area has alot going on that keeps drawing my attention.

Im with Shane. In my opinion, it's an accurately graded coin with a nice look, but I prefer no significant contact on the face.

I would need to see it closer to determine if it is actually grease, or a planchet inclusion (embedded slag).
Grease sitting on the surface is no big deal, of course.
I discussed it with DW, he too stated it was grease.
It's an MS61 so there is already plenty there to distract the eye. As a specific answer, the grease stain did not bother me and that might be due to the fact that it follows the contours of the hair so well and into the star.

The stain does not bother me.... More distracting is the cheek and neck chatter. Cheers, RickO
It would likely bother me enough that I would pass, not that it is an issue for me as I couldn't afford that coin if I sold my entire collection. But if I could afford something that expensive I would rather wait for an example that I really like.

Interesting, thanks for your thoughts.
The problem with waiting for the ‘perfect’ coin is just how low the POPs are. CAC has 7 in 61, 2 in 62 and that’s it.
PCGS has 35 covering 61-63. Of course in the PCGS group, there might be the ‘perfect’ coin but you just don’t see these in MS. And I do like the CAC, although I know this is controversial around here. I know that in general, a CAC coin will sell higher at auction than a non CAC.
So in summary, with Type 1 DEs sometimes the ‘perfect’ coin may not come around or might be years because they’re locked up in some big collections. Actually I do like the coin, I just have to get use to this little added feature.😂
Thanks again for your response.
