For 2023 ANA Summer Seminar Session 1!
I've always wanted to go - with some outside encouragement, I finally decided to make it a priority this year. Can't wait. Hope that some of you will also be there!

One of the best experiences I've had as a collector. Need to do it again.
Attended a three day ANA grading seminar back 2000 in Philadelphia. Learn a lot including there was much more to learn.
Enjoy!
I've signed up for the second week and will be attending the session "Collector's Guide to Liberty Seated Coinage". My first summer seminar!

I'm signed up for both weeks and really looking forward to it!
Good for you! Have fun.
Flying to Colorado Springs in the morning for the start of summer seminar. Hope to see and meet some forum members there!
Congrats! I will also be at Session 1! Which course are you taking?

End of Day 2 - Can’t put a value on what I’ve learned so far in just two days. If you haven’t been to Summer Seminar and you’re passionate about coins, you need to go.
On top of it - great view out the window:
I recently returned from Summer Seminar and can’t recommend it enough! Here are my top tips as a Summer Seminar rookie:
1) Sign up early - Especially for the evening sessions. The extra evening sessions sold out months in advance - I was disappointed to miss a behind the scenes session hosted by one of the auction houses and a behind the scenes session hosted by NGC.
2) BRING COINS (and cash) - I didn’t realize that Summer Seminar is also basically a week long coin show. People were buying and selling with each other from breakfast at 7:30am until ~11pm. Summer Seminar attracts a diversity of interests - from those focused on specific ancients to dealers in modern releases. So bring any coins you are interested in selling. It’s a great low-pressure environment for buying and selling in-person with both collectors and dealers.
3) Get a fan - I stayed in the dorms which have no AC. The temp got up to 80 deg inside and it was very hot for sleeping. Or stay in a hotel (but you’ll miss some of the social aspects).
4) Bring snacks - The cafeteria food at Colorado College is mediocre. There are some good restaurants within a mile or so though.
5) Do your homework - You get out of the class what you put in. Try to clear your calendar so you aren’t distracted by work or other issues back home and can focus on class (there is homework for many of the classes as well).
6) Network - introduce yourself to as many people as possible. Everyone is super passionate about coins and it’s easy to start conversations about any topic (including the controversial topics!). Bring business cards, wooden nickels or anything else with your numismatic contact and social media info - makes it easier to follow up on conversations later.
The ANA did an amazing job coordinating. From pickup at the airport to drop off, they handled all the logistics and everyone was super friendly and accommodating.
I’m looking forward to attending many more Summer Seminars!
In your main course -> #13 Business of Being a Coin Dealer, did they give you any books or make any recommendations?
Yes - they recommended a handful of business oriented books. It’s the one class that doesn’t focus on learning about coins specifically - so the recommendations were not books about coins. Think popular books for managing your career, psychology, sociology, negotiation, management, etc.
