Interesting that they melted all but 1. Does anyone know why they left 1?

Have there been other coin melts where they left 1 or just a few?

    If I understand it correctly, that sole coin was not officially left as a unique example but was an assay sample and likely exchanged with another dime or simply kept by a mint employee. Or, it was personally selected as a messenger to spread the word to all other CC coins not to rise up or else. Thems were tough times in the early Carson City Mint.
