Another CRH'ing Tip That Worked Today

Rather unorthodx but what the heck, you got nothing to lose.
I hit a random bank this morning looking for halves. I asked the teller if she had any half dollars in the bank she wanted the get rid of. She said yes, $150 customer rolls in her draw and 7 loose ones in her tray. She then asked the others tellers and scooped up 7 or 8 more for me. She was counting them in front me. I COULD SEE AND HEAR THE SILVER!!
I don't have to tell you, I was having an anxiety attack right there!! She gave me the total and I immediately slid the cash through her window. She then asked me for my account number. I about had a heart attack!! I didn't have an account there. She said; sorry, I need an account to make this transaction. Damn!... Can you make an exception; I asked? No, sorry she said. Damn #$%#^#$^!!! Thanks anyway; I said.
As I was walking out, I grabbed a guy (another customer in the bank) and explained my situation and dilemma.
Bottom-line: I gave him the cash and he got all the halves for me. A nice guy. The tellers saw me and knew exactly what I was doing. They had no problem with it and just smiled at me.

I don't blame you. So how many of the halves were silver?
Just 3 that were in her tray out of the whole bunch. One 64 and two 40%'ers.

Desperate times call for desperate measures!!!! LOL.....you could have just opened an account then and there!!!!! Too funny~! Good thing you had a willing customer!!!
Between you and me, I would have loved to. The boss would have killed me if I opened another account!! 😂 🤣

Nice find and end results

However, I know, if you knew how many silver coins you would of ended up with. You would of just brushed it off? I would of.
Good thinking, though!

How many times have you found stuff when you least expected it? When you look through a tellers window and see silver edged halves in her tray..........Well, you know that feeling.

Great story! Depending on how many silvers there were, I would have opened an account right then and there. Good idea snagging another customer.
I really dislike banks that turn down customers without accounts. Recently, looking for half dollar rolls, one of the banks I went to was extremely nice and welcoming and even sold a couple half dollar rolls. I would certainly open a personal account with them as opposed to the banks that denied me.

That is a great story indeed.

Interesting story and good solution - though I would likely have just opened an account. Cheers, RickO
This reminds me of the scene in the movie "American Graffiti" where Terry is outside a liquor store trying to get someone to get him and Debbie a bottle of Old Harper.
@MWallace- You're right! That is so funny!! LoL!! 😂 🤣

The last couple of weeks I have gotten 28 1964s and 60 40% halves from my credit union's two branches. And they are glad to get rid of them. Most I have gotten in quite awhile.
There's the guy throwing me the half dollars as he runs out of the bank!! 😂 🤣 LoL!!

I had a similar thing occur in Homestead, FL. I received old Lincoln cents in change at the convenience store near my apartment, and upon receiving them, purchased another item to see what was in the cash register. The entire cents bin was full of old Lincoln cents from the 10s and 20s from what I could see. Obviously, a collection that had been dumped at the bank. I tried to exchange the pennies and rolls with those from home, but the clerk knew zero English. No matter what I said or did, he couldn't understand what I was asking - very common situation in south Miami-Dade County. When I've been out of cat food, I have had to meow and pantomime eating to get clerks to understand.
Very frustrating, but also amusing to see that childhood love for old Lincoln cents coming to the forefront.
So thinking about it, I can understand not cashing a check if you don't have an account, but exchanging cash for cash....seems like a common courtesy. I tried getting a box of quarters in Florida and ran into the same excuse,"You don't have an account here so no deal." Not a customer in their eyes. No account, No service.
And on the other hand, if a bank denies you coins because you don't have an account............go back in 6 months. There's a good chance there will be new tellers there. You could very well get lucky.
Many times it's not what you say but how you say it. "YOU GUYS HAVE ANY HALF DOLLARS IN THE BANK YOU WANT TO GET RID OF??" Most bank don't want them in their inventory. They are bulky, a pain in the butt and glad to get rid of them!
If you're lucky the get any..... Remember, tell them you will not return them! Good luck!
