I threw a bid out on this one in the last few seconds and won... cool variety that even I had no problems attributing! Also known as the Wheelspoke variety due to the multiple die cracks apparent on the reverse...

I always like to reply to threads that don't get commented on to try to keep it going. And this is it!
Grease filled die? Great die cracks.

@lkenefic I thought that 1857 was gonna be your last coin until the summer. My how time flies! I have my eye on a couple prospects. You and I seem to have similar taste in Large Cents. This 1829 is a nice coin. The grease filled O and E show on the second Coinfacts coin. I grade it VF 20 maybe 25. The reverse is really nice..the obverse has a couple purple stains and some crud in the date. That being said I think it will straight grade...I have seen much worse early copper in a PCGS straight grade holder. Nice pick up!
These typically come weakly struck on the reverse but I think it was also a grease filled die as well. It was the same die used for the N4 variety, but N7 has additional die breaks which are apparent on this coin and make it a bit easier to attribute for a newbie like me.

@RLSnapper ... haha! Yeah, never say never... the 1857 was going to be it, but this one came up and was just too cheap to pass up... $33.
Edited to add... my main collecting goal for the Middle and Late dates are clean VF to AU pieces. I've mostly adhered to this, but I do have a few that wander down into the G4 to VG range as well. I'll likely upgrade those pieces when I finish the date run. I found 1825's, 26's, and 29's to be particularly tough to find nice.
I think this 1829 N7 just misses VF, but I could be mistaken. True, they come flatly struck but I think this one doesn't quite have enough hair detail under LIBERTY for the grade. That, and theres a hit on the 9 of the date...

Nice old copper and a good catch... Has a lot of 'character'... Old copper saw a lot of commerce... Cents meant a lot more then. Cheers, RickO
Very cool and very inexpensive (!) pickup!
