Trueview images submission

Tom147Tom147 Posts: 1,485 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have a group of about 20 coins that do not have trueview images. Can one submit coins ONLY for the trueview and if so, what is the cost ?

Reholder with Trueview. Or Gold Shield Reholder. I do the Gold Shield Reholder at $25 a coin. Additional cost for shipping with either of these options.

Yes, you can get “in-slab” TrueView service for $5 per coin.

This is a great service if the coin is in an older holder or has a CAC sticker, or if you are concerned about copper stability, etc. Photo quality may not be quite as good, depending on holder scratches, the type of holder, if the coin is proof or toned, etc.

Here is an in-slab TrueView I recently got back. It’s in a CAC’d OGH with a full gasket so you can see part of it around the obverse edges, but it was well worth keeping this coin in that holder.

I prefer this option as well. Good info.

PCGS raised the Gold Shield Reholder price a whopping 56% from the $16 it was last year.

Not a big deal for four-figure coins, but it’s a significant percentage of sub-$100 coins. Much of my WashQ set is below this threshold, and I’ve been less likely to buy non-Gold Shield coins as I no longer consider the reholder cost marginal.

I’m surprised the price is so high considering this service doesn’t require any bandwidth from the grading team. If the photography is $5, that implies a $20 cost just to put the coin in a new piece of plastic.

Nothing is as expensive as free money.

Not necessarily concerned about " old holders " Mainly interested in getting my Registry set all trueviewed, although a 1 point upgrade or a couple + grades in any the aforementioned 20 would come close to if not more than pay for the cost of reconsideration. I'm dealing with coins that are mostly a half point from top pop.

POCKETCHANGE, never considered the " in slab " pictures may not be the quality of a regular submission trueview. That may be the deciding factor making me change to " reconsideration with trueview "

@Tom147 ... Interesting situation... Let us know which way you go and the results. Good luck with some upgrades... Cheers, RickO

I just recently spoke with a PCGS rep about the option to trueview only without reholdering and was told that the cost is only $5 per coin, plus the handling and shipping charge. Seems like a good option if you just want high quality images on a group of coin and don't want to incur the high cost of reholdering/resending to CAC in new holder, etc. The results on the 1915 $5 look great for in-slab images. Does anybody else have any trueviews taken while in the slab that they can share for the good of the group?

I'd be interested in the quality of Trueview photos " In slab " VS " out of the slab " as my intent is to get my entire set Trueviewed. If there is very little difference I would just pay the $ 5.00 but some of my current slabs do have some minor blemishes or scratches.

I have had great experience using something called “polyWatch” to buff out any scuff or scratch I have encountered. My results look crystal clear!!! As good as new! I use Windex to remove any residue. Be sure to only use a microfiber cloth.

There are lots of different sellers on eBay.

    I wonder
Can someone take a pic of the coin and then do something to make it seem like a true view pic?
Is there some kind of code that you can add to the pic that would do that?
I have a lot of coins and would also like them all to have "true View" type pics.
I know nothing about talking pictures but there must be something that's in the pic so when you add the pic to the registry it can find them and automatically add them.

These were all TVs through the slab. I was pleased overall with how they came out. The original Bay Bridge image was a bit disappointing and required some post-processing.

Not exactly the same but I use the “merge photos” function in my iPhone to create TV-like images and upload them to my registry.

@Bigtree Looking at your pictures, I would say they are not quite as sharply detailed as TrueViews taken outside of the slab. Is this a fair assessment? Nice coins by the way!

I did not know of this service. I always wanted Trueview's of my Eliasberg Liberty Nickels, but do not want to lose the original green label holders. Now I can get the best of both.

@Mark i think that’s a fair assessment and an astute observation.

It’s worth pointing out that there’s quite a bit of the plastic slab visible around the rims in this TrueView.

If I can get pictures like that for all my coins I'd be a very happy camper!

Does anyone know the turnaround time for a Trueview only order?

I have alot of great "through the slab" images, Lanceviews I like to call them... but the prongs can be a problem, especially on NGC coins.
Well here we have a little post processing by our own Mr. Spud, done on the spot, right here via PM 😂
