About 12 years ago I sold most of my collection and paid off my house loan. I don’t regret it but I sure do wish I still had some of those coins.

You are lucky wish my house was paid off!!! Still got a long ways to go before I can say the same. I still buy 3-5 coins per year but if the house was paid off I could travel to conventions and buy a lot more coins and enjoy life a lot more.

But no complaints at least I have a home that I am paying off slowly.

That was the deal when I sold my collection. Take the house payment and buy coins. Let’s just say that didn’t happen. Getting closer now that the kids are almost out of college and I’m almost at retirement.

@spacehayduke, Im not sure when you pulled the trigger on your build, or what part of the country you're in, but I would hope that your property value may have gone up enough to make up for the potential gains on the coins. That being said, I would have had a tough time letting those beauties go 🤤

Having owned two raw ‘23S walkers that I flipped for nice profits that later graded 58, while a lowly PC55 resides in my registry set.
Oh some of the regrets of when I was a part time dealer with want lists….

@DNADave is trying to make me sad on a Friday night. :(

Out of the 180 in my PCGS Sold Inventory, I wouldn't mind having a couple dozen back but I will somehow live. I do enjoy the coins I currently own very much.

That’s what I was doing, looking through the sold inventory of 42 sold. I had some good stuff

This thread supports my reasons for not selling my coins. No regrets. Well, almost none... I have sold gold, mostly modern.... I do miss the Britannia sets I sold, they are beautiful coins. Most of my gold is not collector coins though, so parting is not difficult. Cheers, RickO

I guess I don't keep pictures of my ex's around... lol. Seriously though, I likely lost most of those image files due to a couple of hard drive crashes over the years.

I sold off the bulk of my Type collection and Late Date Large Cents a little over 10 years ago. Of those coins, the one I'd like to have back is the 1873 Trade Dollar... a nice AU with subtle toning showing through under original surfaces. I replaced it with an 1877-S ex-PCGS AU53 also with original skin and subtle luster, but its not that first year issue that I like. The other coin I miss is a T1 SLQ, also AU, also original skin but with a full strike and more cameo appearance...

This is a coin that I regret selling. It has a textbook cameo contrast with nice surfaces.

I foolishly sold this one to a dealer (who I don't like), before the boom, for $30.00.

    I wish I had it back. :'(

Just to make you feel better @Eldorado9. I won't post my more painful.

Simply the most beautiful 1894 I've ever seen. Ex. Duckor, finest known. I'm guessing somebody with initials DLH has it now?

Just a few of my gold set that was sacrificed a few years back to help pay for the house we built for retirement. Won't ever be able to replace these. And sadly, their values have mostly doubled since I sold them..........

Love that 1841-D coin. Just a perfect look in my opinion.

Probably not all the value since has been recovered in increased property value, but that is ok, we don't plan to sell this house so it would be an unrealized gain anyway. This was a life time set for me but it was a decision that had to be made, other things were more important, and I was not willing to sell other investments instead. This part of the collection (rare gold) was the more marketable and easiest to liquidate. Maybe I can get equivs for some of these over the next decade, we will see - take a look at the CAC stats for these and you will see how hard they are to find...................

HST, I was very lucky to have had them in my possession for a while and enjoy looking at the images from time to time. I am sure they found great homes.

    Best, SH

I’ve sold 75 or 80% of the non-bullion coins I’ve owned. I can’t think of any that I really regret selling. Like the OP, I made paying off the mortgage a priority a few years back and that resulted in far fewer coin purchases these last few years. We finished off that thing a few months ago. As things stand right now, the value of my collection is already at the upper end of what I’m comfortable with as a percentage of my net worth……. So, I’m just chasing a few here and there.

Dont know what happened to the reverse image, but this NJ colonial was loaded with eye appeal. That circ cam contrast that everybody loves on a smooth planchet.

Sold after a catastrophic consignment failure. I miss this one 😢

Thanks, I wish I still had it. But someone else is enjoying it, maybe showing it off as well.
