I was reading some articles on Mr. Haney a month or so ago. Seems like he was a great guy to be around. Shared his time and knowledge and loved coin collecting.
Has anyone here ever met him and have a story?

Real nice coins. I’m not surprised they each merit a CAC sticker!

Any chance you’ll send the IHC to Rick Snow to get his Eagle Eye Photo Seal?

Nice coins. Looks like your 3CN has a (minor) RPD.

Im not fully familiar with the eagle eye photo seal. Does Rick verify its the correct grade like cac? Or is it something else?

Thanks for any info on this.

Yes. Rick Snow is the worlds foremost authority on Flying Eagle and Indian Head Cents. He literally wrote the book on these coins. Back around 1994 he started doing for these two copper cent Types what CAC started doing for all Classic coins in 2008. While Rick and JA look at the same variety of factors to determine if a coin is solid for the grade, I believe they weigh those factors different from each other. In my opinion, having both stickers on an IHC is the best of both worlds.

“The Market” knows and recognizes a CAC sticker more than the Eagle Eye Photo Seal, hence the greater market value of having the CAC sticker. However, many copper specialists would prefer the Eagle Eye sticker if they could have only one sticker.

Rick charges just $15 for his Photo Seal sticker, and he refunds this if the coin fails to sticker. In addition to the sticker, he also provides you with a slab sized plasticized card with a color photo of your slab with the sticker on one side, and his autograph on the reverse. Additionally, he provides you via his searchable database by cert number three high quality downloadable photos: one of the slab obverse, a large obverse photo, and a large reverse photo. All of this for just $15 (plus round trip shipping). Turnaround time is usually less than a week if he’s not at a major coin show.

Here are his three photos of one of my nicer Indians, along with photos of the front and back of the plasticized card:

Congratulations again on your two new lovely pickups!

Joseph Haney was like the Roy Rogers of Numismatics back in the 80's and 90's - meaning everyone liked him. He was a variety collector, and did his own research, discovering numerous new varieties in many different series of coins, and then he would publish his findings in Coin World and other magazines. It's quite an honor to own his pedigree coins, but many of them are lower grades, which makes them quite affordable! Cherish them! :)
