Kudos to VSS, aka @messydesy

I have a dozen 1955 D/S Jefferson Nickels that are not OMM #1. I don't know about every TPG, but most don't recognize minor varieties. In this case, NGC recognizes the 1955 D/S OMM #1, but for the plethora of other D/S OMM's, they simply put on the label D/S, without the variety #. Here is where Variety Slabbing Service comes in. I think they're mostly known for identifying VAMs, but do some other varieties. The boards own @messydesk (John) owns VSS. He did a GREAT job identifying my 12 OMM's and I couldn't be more happier with the service I received. And to make things even better, a few months ago Great Collections began recognizing VSS labels.

Here is an example of John's work.

There's a coincidence. I just dug a couple of 1955-D/ S's out of a bunch of rolls and it appears to be a new one.

Congratulations @Messydesk. If your endeavor ends up being very successful I'll know why. B)

Very cool! FAR more useful than a CAC sticker, IMHO. The amount of information on that is about as complete as you could possibly hope for! Great Job, John!

I'm not a Jefferson collector, but it would seem that the Mint cancelled plans to send 5c dies to SF and repurposed an entire shipment for Denver. Between VarietyVista and Wexler's site, there are north of 20 D/S varieties. It wouldn't surprise me if there were more.

    Thank you.

I believe it's an advanced die state of OMM #10 per the double die site.

I often wonder how close these dies got to San Francisco and to striking 1955 nickels. I tried researching it on-line but got nowhere with these modern search engines.

I guess in any case though they are the closest thing you can get to a 1955-S Jefferson.

Very cool! I knew he did VAMs but was unaware he had expanded to other series. It is a much needed service, and I can’t think of anyone better to do it.
