"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
I'm all for seconds chances but even after he got lucky and avoided what could have been 25 years in prison he never became a better person.
Condolences to the family
A simple no may have been a better way to go than to give a dead man one last kick by bringing up what most already know.
Again sad for the family but his passing does not change who he was. You do make a point though perhaps mentioning a day after does show some lack of social grace.
It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
He has a large presence (mostly in retrospect) in Ball Four. So much so that when I heard this, my memory was flooded with stuff like the Phil Linz harmonica incident, "My leg hurts...ya dig?" and the time when Mantle and Ford sent Joe and Bouton to some dive bar in NYC after making them think it was the equivalent of Sardi's.

It has happened to many people, it has happened to us too.
That is a very odd first post ever.
Welcome to the boards!
Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.
For a first post ever, I agree, it's bizarre. But, it's a damn strange post in any context.
